Callaway Apex 24 Irons Reviewed – Pro Vs CB Vs MB Vs Apex 21
The Callaway Apex series of irons is the cream of the crop as far as Callaway is concerned.
The Apex irons are what Callaway pours its premium features, materials and best engineering into.
These irons are made for skilled players ready to make the leap into scratch territory – and for scratch players seeking to maintain a high level of play.
The latest iteration of the series, the Apex 24 irons, sees Callaway pushing things further. With new features and technology, the Apex 24 promises even better performance than its predecessors.
But does this latest version deliver? I tested the Apex 24 irons to see if they are worth the upgrade over the Apex 21 irons.
Key Features & Selling Points
Forged Carbon Steel
The entire Apex 24 lineup of irons has been forged from 1025 mild carbon steel save for the Apex 24 Pro.
While the Apex 24 Pro body sports a 1025 carbon steel construction, the face is forged from 455 steel.
Refined Sole
The Callaway Apex 24 irons also have a pre-worn leading edge that makes them play smoother through the turf and semi-rough.
Personally, this feature helped with my digging problem and I suspect it would do the same for players with the same heavy hitting issue.
Multiple Designs
The Callaway Apex Pro 24 is a forged hollow body irons, ideal for players seeking max distance.
The Apex CB 24 is a forged muscle cavity irons for players who are seeking a bit of forgiveness to go along with solid workability.
The Apex MB 24 is a compact, thin muscle back for low handicappers seeking the highest degree of shot shapability.
How Are They Better Than the Apex 21 Irons?
I think one of the most interesting improvements is in the Apex Pro irons.
I actually found the Apex Pro 24 irons to be a bit more forgiving than the Apex Pro 21’s. The profile is a bit bigger which should make the Apex Pro 24 more accessible to mid handicappers than the Pro 21 irons were.
But the Pros MB and CB 24 irons have also been improved. They are much more blade-like than their Pro 21 counterparts.
The workability is phenomenal and the looks are sure to please low handicappers even more than the Pro 21 irons did.
In essence, Callaway made their “forgiveness” Apex iron more forgiving and their performance Apex irons more attractive and useful to skilled players.
The refined soles also improve the turf interaction of the Pro 24 irons across the board.
Callaway Apex 24 Pro Irons Review

- Pre-worn leading edge
- Urethane microspheres
- Hollow design
Key Features
The Callaway Apex 24 Pro irons are the only irons in the new Apex 24 series to feature a hollow-body design, urethane microspheres and a 455 forged steel face.
The hollow-body design is the real star of the show though.
The Callaway Apex 24 Pro’s may be the longest irons in the new Apex series. I was averaging a carry distance of 161.4 yards with the 7-iron in this set which is a considerable improvement over my gamers.
What Handicap Are They for?
The Callaway Apex 24 Pro irons would be a good choice for 6-12 handicappers.
It gives you the distance you may still need as a mid handicapper and also the premium feel you may want as a single-digit handicapper.

Selling Points:
- Muscle cavity design
- Progressive CG
- 5-step forging

The Callaway Apex 24 CB irons feature MIM weights in the toe to help provide balance and enhance forgiveness on toe-side mis-hits.
The cavity muscle design offers moderate forgiveness; but the offset is limited.

I would say the Callaway Apex 24 CB irons are for 5-10 handicappers.
Despite the toe weights, you have to be on-point with your swing path and be able to square the face at impact on your own.

- Excellent workability
Cons:
- Expensive

Callaway Apex 24 MB Irons Review
Selling Points:
- One-piece forged
- Dynamic sole design
- Progressive CG
Key Features
The Callaway Apex 24 MB’s are the thinnest and most compact irons in the Apex 24 lineup.
With almost no offset to speak of and a pure muscle back, they look stunning behind the ball. I found the Callaway Apex 24 MB’s to be supremely workable and smooth through the turf.
The progressive CG allowed me to control launch and distance in the short irons and work my launch in the long irons.

The Callaway Apex 24 MB irons are for low handicappers and scratch players.
You need to be able to make consistent contact from any lie to get the best use out of these irons.

The Titleist T100 irons feature tungsten weighting in the heel and toe and a tour-refined sole design.

The sweet spot may not be massive, but you can expect uniform ball speed, distance and trajectory across the scoring zone.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- They look beautiful
- Good turf interaction
- Decent forgiveness from a player’s iron
Cons:
- A bit heavy
Overall Score: 97/100

Srixon Z-Forged II Irons
Key Features
The Srixon Z-Forged II irons have been forged from 1020 carbon steel. As you would expect, this gives them a very soft feel and enhances feedback quite a bit.
These irons also feature progressive grooves which are common in forged Srixon offerings. The grooves start wide in the mid and long irons then get tighter in the short irons.
I really loved the short home control these irons afforded me. They spun to a high degree and allowed me to hold onto firm, elevated greens.
The offset is nearly non-existent in the short irons as well which gave me a better sense of control and the ability to take my natural swing for consistent results.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Progressive offset
- Great short game control
- Excellent feel
Cons:
- They’re pricey
Overall Score: 98/100

Final Thoughts
So if you already have a set of Apex 21 irons, are the Apex 24 irons worth an upgrade.
That depends on where you are in your game. If you are trying to reach the amateur level or make it into scratch territory and haven’t been able to break through with the Apex 21’s, I would say the 24’s are at least worth a fitting.
Especially the Apex 24 CB and Apex 24 MB irons.
The best upgrades have been to turf interaction and the feel (the Apex 24 MB undergo a much more meticulous forging process) so if these are aspects you feel can improve your game, go for the Apex 24’s.
