G410 vs Mavrik Driver Overview

The Ping G410 and the Callaway Mavrik both promise uncompromising ball speed thanks to thin faces that provide a high degree of flex.

Both also feature some sort of internal ribbing system to help stabilize the thin face. In addition to high ball speed, both of these clubs are also very forgiving.

Ping G410 Key Features

 

The Ping G410 features a forged titanium face. The face has undergone heat treatment to get it as thin and flexible as possible.

Backing up the thin titanium face is a network of lightweight internal bars that branch out to form what Ping calls their Internal Dragonfly ribbing system.

The Ping G410 Driver is also available in an LST version which reduces the spin and increases the forgiveness for high handicappers.

Callaway Mavrik Key Features

 

The standard Callaway Mavrik features Callaway’s Cyclone Aero head shape which, reduces drag tremendously.

They couple the head design with Flash Face technology which, is a thin, slightly curved face to preserve ball speed and increase accuracy on off-center shots.

The Mavrik driver is also available in a Max version which is more beginner friendly and sub zero version which is made for the fastest of swingers.

Similarities and Differences Between The Drivers

Right off the bat, we see that Callaway and Ping have both emphasized ball speed preservation by incorporating thin faces and some sort of internal ribbing system into the G410 and Mavrik.

Both drivers do feel remarkably stable and provide a good degree of forgiveness.

Where these drivers differ the most however, is versatility. The Ping G410 features an adjustable rear weight that can be sets to draw, neutral or fade positions.

The adjustable hosel also allows you adjust loft and lie degrees.

The Ping G425 is similar to the G410 in a lot of ways including dragonfly ribbing technology, titanium forged face and the adjustable weight.

The G425 has a more aerodynamically designed head shape, though. The G425 is sort of like if the G410 and Mavrik driver were combined.

The Epic Speed driver features an interesting twist on the stabilizing internal jailbreak bars. The bars are beefier at the top and the bottom. This provides more stability near the crown and the sole so that the face can flex more.

Who Is Each Driver for?

Both of these drivers were designed to fit comfortably in the hands of mid to low handicap players with good swing speeds.

If you like having the option to adjust loft and rear weighting, you will get more from the Ping G410.

If you have a faster swing speed, you may feel more comfortable with the Callaway Mavrik. It was made so that players with fast swing speeds would feel more comfortable on the downswing.

Remember there is nothing wrong with these drivers for high handicappers either and the Mavrik Max is available for players needing more forgiveness.

 

Performance Comparison

The Ping G410 and the Callaway Mavrik both delivered impressive ball speed and distance.

The Mavrik felt a bit more comfortable with the aerodynamic head design, but we liked the sound and feel of the G410 more. It felt solid, played hot off the tee and provided the same stability as the Mavrik.

It’s important to note that both of these drivers perform exceptionally well on low face shots. They were both very forgiving due in part to the architecture of the faces and internal ribbing systems.

These days, you can find both of these drivers on sale for around $400 brand new. You may even get the G410 for about $350

Pros:

• You might not be able to get optimal distance if you don’t have a fast swing speed

Final Thoughts

In terms of ball speed and stability, both of these drivers delivered. In fact, they are designed similarly and performed almost identically.

The differences were in the details of feel. The Ping felt more satisfying overall. The Mavrik felt better to swing but on impact, you get a flatter sound.

Overall, you can’t go wrong with either of these drivers but if you prefer a better feel and versatility, we would recommend the Ping G410.

Just make sure you play a round or two with it before you enter any tournaments because it does take some time to warm up to the Ping G410.
