Matt Kuchar: Early Life And Parents

On June 21, 1978 Kuchar was born to parents Peter and Meg Kuchar. Peter was an insurance salesman at the time and his mother, Meg was a tennis professional in tennis.

He grew up in Winter Park, Florida with his sister, Rebecca with whom he is still very close to. When Kuchar was young, his parents were constantly encouraging him to follow his dreams and play golf but this didn’t start from an early age.

Kuchar was more into tennis and basketball as opposed to golf in his younger years, perhaps due to his mother’s tennis influence. However, when he decided to pursue golf – everyone was more than supportive in his career choice.

After graduating from Seminole High School in 1996, Kuchar attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and pursued their golf program. He was very successful and became a two-time first team all-American and followed that was a degree in Business Management.

Prior to going professional, Matt played in a few amateur championships. In 1996, he lost to Tiger Woods in the amateur championships but didn’t let that stop him from winning in 1997.

And as a proud father does, Peter caddied for Matt and even got a few criticizations for cheering him on but the father-son duo did not seem too fussed!

Matt Kuchar: Personal Life, Wife, Family, And More

Matt Kuchar, American golfer has been married to Sybi Parker since 2003. The couple met when Kuchar was still studying at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she was playing tennis.

They started forming a connection during college and grew close to one another but it was only after college that they started really hitting it off. It is assumed that they were too busy focusing on their own lives, sports and academics that they didn’t even have time to think about dating.

After a year of dating, the couple got engaged and then married in 2003 and the rest was history! Sybi was an exceptional tennis player in college but decided to not pursue tennis professionally. After college, she coached tennis for a while but then stopped that too.

But, that is not to say she doesn’t play socially. The dynamic-duo are actually amazing doubles partners and won the consolation title in the USTA National Husband/Wife Doubles Championship.

Sybi seems to check all the boxes when it comes to supporting her husband’s career. She appears at most tournaments and has even caddied for him a number of times. Kuchar even states that his wife is his biggest supporter, how sweet!

Since the marriage, the husband-wife team have had two sons, namely Carson Wright and Cameron Cole.

Matt Kuchar: Career

After going professional in 2000, Kuchar has his first big win at the 2002 Honda Classic. Following this, he appeared to have a bit of a slump in his career – not earning enough money and losing his tour card.

It was only in 2007 he managed to regain his tour card after coming 115th on the PGA money list and 70th in 2008.

In 2010, Kuchar made the Ryder Cup team in 2010 followed by Kuchar leading the top 10 finishes of the year. It is no doubt that he reinvented himself and became a stronger version of himself – making 2010 one of the best years yet.

In 2011, Kuchar started the year off with a bang. He had three-consecutive top-finishes in the first three weeks of the season which is a near perfect way to begin the new year! Later on in the year, Kuchar went on to make more history by having his 8th top-10 finish of the season.

This took his career to new heights and took his world rank to number 6. Amazing to say the least! Following that year, Kuchar had his best performance at the Masters in 2012, where he tied for third.

Kuchar went on to win many more championships throughout the years and earned millions of dollars.

His last game was played out in Japan in 2020 where he won the Singapore Open. Currently, Kuchar is not playing golf due to an injury but there is no talk as of yet that he is retiring – perhaps he will back a bigger and better comeback than the first.
