Jason Day: Early Life And Parents

Jason Day was born in Beaudesert, Queensland on the 12th of November, 187 to his father, Alvin Day and Filipino mother, Dening Day.

Jason’s mother was a Philippine immigrant who worked hard to provide for Jason and his two sisters, after the tragic passing of his father who was defeated by stomach cancer. To this day, Jason will always be thankful to his mom for not allowing him to give up on golf. He mentions she is the reason he continued after his father’s passing.

Since the age of six, Jason used to go to the golf course with his father, Alvin who enrolled him as a junior member. A fond memory he will never forget. Following the death of his father, Jason became a troubled child. Focusing his efforts on less-accomplishing tasks such as alcohol and fighting. It was believed that he become an alcoholic at the ripe age of 12. What a difficult thing it is to believe such a champion now was in such a low place once!

Regardless of his troubles, his mother always believed in him and his golfing talents. As a result of their financial struggles, Dening took out a second bond just to get him through Kooralbyn International School which was a well-known boarding school with a golfing academy attached to it.

During this transition, to boarding school, Jason had no time to participate in activities that weren’t going to get him far. With school and golf being the only two things he could do, he went onto the straight and narrow very quickly. It was during this time he found his mentor and golfing coach, Colin Swatton who remains to be known as his ‘adoptive father’ to this day.

Jason Day: Career

A few years after training over 30 hours a week with Swatton, Day moved to the United States to join the Nationwide Tour. During this time of his life, Day was known as the youngest player in history to win the circuit, at just 19 years old! As a result of his incredible accomplishment, Day received his PGA tour card where he made his debut in 2008.

Jason broke into the top 10 scenes in 2011 and has been in the public eye ever since. It was August 2015 when Jason again, achieved the victory of winning the PGA championship. It was a truly spectacular moment, where photographers caught him crying in the arms of his caddy. We can only imagine how amazing it must have felt after all the tragedy he has been though in his life and there is no doubt his father was smiling down cheering him on. Not only did he win the PGA Championship, but he also broke a new record by becoming the very first golfer to finish at 20-under-par in a major.

It seemed as though 2015 was Day’s lucky year as he continued his winning streak. He won both the Barclays and the BMW Championship. Following this, Day was listed number 1 on the world rankings for the first time.

In 2016, Day followed these wins with a win at the Players Championship in 2016 but unfortunately was defeated by Jordan Spieth who was ranked number 2 in the world at the time. Unfortunately, due to the Zika Virus in 2016 Day did not participate in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

To make up for a winless season in 2017, Day won the Farmers Insurance Open in 2018 which was his first win in over 12 months. And since then Day has been on a steady slope upwards, making an incredible success of himself.

Jason Day: Personal Life, Wife, Family, And More

Jason Day are married to his beautiful wife, Ellie Harvey who is originally from Lucas, Ohio. The couple got married in 2009 and currently have four children together, one special daughter and three sons.

As any love story starts, the couple met in a restaurant where Ellie was waitressing, at the time. Although they didn’t start dating for a few years after that when they ran into each other. Following that encounter, the rest was history.

Jason appears to keep his family life fairly private, with Ellie personally laying low too however, that was seemingly difficult when she made headlines in December 2015 when Lebron James accidentally made contact with her when trying to catch a loose ball at a basketball game. Unfortunately, she did receive medical attention but did not sustain any severe injuries which we are sure she was grateful for!
