Is Fazer A Good Golf Brand? – We’ve Reviewed Their Clubs

I can remember a time when it was really hard to find affordable golf gear.

If you were looking for a bargain, you had to either scour garage sales or hope for some hand-me-downs from friends and relatives.

Back then, there weren’t a bunch of smaller golf club manufacturers – and if there were, they couldn’t get a lot of attention.

The internet changed all that and now we have brands like Fazer whose products are readily available online.

Fazer may not be a brand you are familiar with as an American golfer. But they make some affordable golf gear.

The only question is, ‘are Fazer golf clubs any good?’ We answer that question in the following brand review.

A Brief History of Fazer Golf Clubs

A few sources claim that Fazer is actually a very old company.

It is rumored that the company was founded in the early 1900’s by a man named John Fazer.

The company is reported to have been founded in London.

There have also been claims that it is actually an in-house brand of AmericanGolf which is a retailer as well as manufacturer for a few different brands.

In any case, it is certain that the brand is much better-known in the UK than it is Stateside.

Where Are Fazer Golf Clubs Made?

Unfortunately, there is conflicting information as to where Fazer golf clubs are actually made and we can’t confirm which claim is true.

It could be that Fazer golf clubs are made in the United Kingdom which would make sense since that’s where the clubs feature most prominently.

Fazer Contender Irons Review

When I first got my hands on the Fazer Contender irons, the phrase “blast from the past” immediately came to mind.

They look like irons that Ping was producing in the early 90’s.

And while they aren’t oversized by today’s game improvement iron standards, these irons are still plenty big.

The Fazer Contender irons are pretty straight forward cavity back irons. They have large head profiles with moderately deep faces.

They are stainless steel cast irons. Surprisingly, the cavity isn’t very deep. As a result, the cavity undercut doesn’t glare out at you at point of address.

So while they look hefty in the bag, they don’t look ugly behind the ball. There is only moderate offset throughout the set so you’ll have to be on point about squaring up.

But the Fazer Contender long irons play, well, long.

By far, the best thing about these irons is their distance. I was able to get 174 yards out of the 5-iron which is about 3 yards longer than my gamer 5-iron.

But the feedback is muddled. I had a hard time telling where on the face I made contact.

The ball flight was very stable and there was moderate forgiveness on mis-hits. I didn’t get the sense that the face twisted at all when I hit near the toe or heel.

The launch is mid-high and can’t really be worked down or up.

Dispersion was surprisingly tight. Again, my mis-hits weren’t slicing or hooking so I was staying within the realm of playable lies.

That being said, I found it difficult to work the Fazer Contender irons the way I wanted to.

They seemed to draw on their own volition but when I intended for a draw, I got a rather straight shot.

The complete set of Fazer Contender irons includes irons 3-9 but you may be able to find some Fazer wedges online.

Who Are They for?

The Fazer Contender irons would be a good choice for anyone looking for a traditional, no-nonsense set of game improvement irons.

It’s not very hard to get a straight shot out of these irons so perhaps they would be even better for beginners and 20+ handicappers.

Keep in mind that you will have to buy these irons second hand. But if you don’t mind a bit of wear, you will likely get a really good deal.

Fazer XR2 Driver Review

The Fazer XR2 driver is bereft of fancy features. In fact, the tech that went into it is pretty basic.

The Fazer XR2 driver has a titanium head with a satin crown. The CG has been placed low in the driver head which has a 460cc volume – all stuff we’ve heard before.

So really, the merit of this driver would come down to its performance. At the range, I liked the fact that the Fazer XR2 driver produces a low-volume “click” at impact.

I hate drawing a lot of attention to myself at the range when I’m testing a loud driver. The feedback isn’t clear as day; but there is enough to let you know whether you hit a good shot or not.

The side spin numbers I was getting from my launch monitor were on the high side. As a result, I wasn’t getting super-tight dispersion.

Still, I was staying out of the trees which was a good sign considering my mis-hits were pretty severe. These were intentional mis-hits by the way, as the Fazer XR2 driver is very forgiving.

The sweet spot is expansive and produces really good ball speed too. I can’t complain about the distance – 254 yards of carry on average.

No it’s not the longest driver on the market; but it should be long enough for most beginners and high handicappers.

The Fazer XR2 driver is set to 10.5 degrees and it produces naturally high launch. I liked that the crown wasn’t reflective and that it produced no glare in direct sunlight.

The Fazer XR2 driver comes with a stock graphite shaft. Overall, the club is lightweight and will produce some good ball speed for slower swing speed players.

Who is it for?

The Fazer XR2 driver is a good choice for budget-conscious golfers in the swing speed range of 75-85 MPH with their drivers.

Fazer Blizzard Golf Club Set Review

The Fazer Blizzard complete golf club set includes a driver, 3-wood, #4 hybrid, #5 hybrid, irons 5-9, pitching wedge and a mallet-style putter.

The driver is set to 10.5 ° of loft and has a nice, beefy look at address. I liked the 3-wood in particular because it has recessed channels in the sole that made for very smooth turf interaction.

The hybrids have a good face length going from heel to toe. This made them very forgiving – although my heavy shots were a bit of an issue with these clubs.

The irons are oversized cavity backs with moderately wide soles and a top line you can eat off of. They look very assuring at address and it’s ridiculously easy to nail their sweet spots.

The mallet putter is a bit clunky and it lacks feedback. There was also considerable roll delay. The putter is probably the weakest club in the bag.

Who is it for?

The Fazer Blizzard complete golf club set is for beginners. Almost all of the clubs are oversized and forgiving.

• Very forgiving design

Fazer CR21 Ladies Golf Club Set Review

The CR21 complete golf club set includes a 12.5 degree driver, a 3-wood, a #6 hybrid, irons 5-9 and a blade-style putter.

The driver produces towering launch and is very lightweight. The fairway wood is also very light but still has a low center of gravity.

The 6-hybrid was a peculiar choice and leaves some significant gapping. Still, it’s forgiving and looks good behind the ball.

The irons are oversized cavity backs with wide soles. They also produce high trajectory.

The blade-style putter feels very well-balanced and feels smooth through impact.

Overall this is a decent set of clubs for beginners – just be aware that you may have some long-game gapping issues.

Who is it for?

The Fazer CR21 Ladies Golf Club set would be a good choice if you’re brand-new to the game of golf, it’s inexpensive, includes a bag and will help you learn the basics.

Is Fazer A Good Brand? – Final Thoughts

Fazer is a good brand if you’re a beginner and you want to save some money on golf gear.

They won’t be the clubs you play once you’ve broken 100; but they are good enough to get you to that milestone.

The best thing about the Fazer clubs I tested was that almost all of them were very forgiving and easy to hit with.
