Grant Horvat: Early Life And Parents

Grant Horvat, now a resident of Stuart, spent his childhood in Detroit, where he learned to play basketball, an indoor activity well-suited to surviving the brutal Michigan winters.

But at 12, he transitioned to golf, and we believe this is where his life completely shifted.

Shortly after that, he and his family began a southerly move, settling in Pennsylvania as he started high school there and then along the Treasure Coast right before he turned 15. He was eligible to join South Fork High School’s golf team under the direction of head coach Tony Malizia.

Since he is the only child of Steve and Nicki Horvat, he didn’t have to look very far for golfing inspiration. The sport is practically all they do. Let’s take a look at how his career took off.

2015-16

Horvat’s career started in 2015 when he earned official competition money. This was when he entered the South Fork competition with his long-time coach, Tony Malizia. Following that, the athlete continued playing for the Bulldogs and was rewarded with the first-team All-Area.

2017-18

As a freshman, Grant played only five matches during the first half of the 2017-18 season, shooting an average of 78.60 with a low round of 74. Later that season, he competed in the McDonough Cup in late October and tied for 38th.

2018-19

You know what they say, practice makes perfect. The young superstar was getting progressively better the more he played.

As a sophomore, Horvat played nine games with a Sailfish, averaging 74.62, which was around his best in the previous season. Here he followed to score a low round of 69. Early in that season, he tied for 14th at the three-day SSC Men’s Golf Championships in Florida.

2020-21

Horvat made his professional debut in the 2020-21 season. Here he participated in three of Sailfishes’ most essential competitions, including the Matlock Invitational and the Battle at the Shores, where he tied for 28th.

Lastly, he tied for first place in the SSC Championships and shot a 73.8 season average with a low round of 70.
