Genevieve Ling: Early Life And Parents

Genevieve Ling was born in the early year of 1995 in Malaysia. She was born to supportive and caring parents who have been by her side throughout her golfing journey since she found interest in the sport.

Genevieve, or Genny to those closer to her started playing the sport when she was just 12 years old. She thanks her father for introducing her to the game, if it wasn’t for him taking up the sport – who knows if she would have ever been as invested as she is now.

When Ling was younger, she always used to go along with her father and sister to the course to practice her range – quite sophisticated for a young, aspiring adolescent if you are me!

Genevieve attended Boise State University in Idaho on a full scholarship where she completed her studies with a BA in Communication. It is no doubt however, that Ling made sure golf was still one of her main priorities throughout her academic career.

It was no sooner after college that Genevieve decided to go pro and make her dreams become a reality. Let’s take a dive into her career highlights and where she is currently.

Throughout her university career, she was a well-known and star golfer. Competing in freshman year in 9/10 Bronco tournaments and averaging second on the team. In Sophomore year she also received an invitation for the NCAA East Regional championships in Raleigh.

Ling is the second women’s golfer to ever make it to NCAA’s postseason in school history. We can tell that she is already a sportswoman you want to keep an eye on!

Since the beginning, it was always Ling’s dream to go onto the American LPGA. However, due to COVID-19, it was all pushed further away than what she would have liked.

Throughout her first few years of going professional, Genevieve competed in the Korean Tour of LPGA where she was able to qualify for both the China and Taiwan LPGA. Ling was one of two players who won the KLPGA in 2018, is was here that she realised there is always so much to learn about the sport and the players – regardless of the competition and where it is held.

Over time she started to learn her courses, especially the different courses between China and Taiwan. Ling mentioned how well-groomed China courses are, ‘if you strike well, you will be able to score well’ – if only it were that easy for all of us!

Taiwan on the other hand was a bit more challenging, firmer greens and a bit slower – encouraging her to get creative with her plays and be adaptive towards the course. It was after this that COVID-19 came and put a spin on things for the next year and a half.

Last year, 2021, she was unable to go to Q-school due to financial costs and is the reason she began a GoFundMe page to help her make her dream a reality. She did however embark on a journey to the Women’s All-Pro Tour in March of ‘21.

Currently, Ling has no statistics do date for the 2022 season but we are sure that she will make headway soon and achieve her American dream of going onto the LPGA!
