Callaway Mavrik Vs Callaway Epic Speed Fairway Woods

Callaway puts a lot of the same technology into the Mavrik and Epic Speed fairway woods but it’s the seemingly minute differences that will help you determine which is best for you.

Callaway is known for making outstanding clubs. From drivers to irons, they seem to hit it out of the park year after year.

Still, sometimes there is very little variance between clubs which can make it difficult to figure out which one to buy.

If you are in the market for a fairway wood and are having trouble deciding between the Mavrik and Epic Speed you’re in luck because today we will be comparing these clubs side by side.

Overview of Both Clubs

The Mavrik and the Epic Speed fairway woods are both great distance clubs that work well on the deck or from the tee.

The first thing you should know about these two clubs is that the Epic Speed is the more updated fairway wood between the two.

For instance, the Epic Speed fairway wood features the updates SS21 flash face while the Mavrik rocks the older SS20 flash face.

However, they were both designed for distance. They also both feature AI design and jailbreak bars.

Again though, the Epic Speed woods feature an updated jailbreak design that flattens them out a bit more to save on weight.

Callaway Epic Speed Fairway Wood Key Features

The Epic Speed takes everything great about the Mavrik and enhances it.

The updated jailbreak bars and stiffened frame of the Epic Speed fairway wood allow the newly designed SS21 face to flex even more. This helps increase ball speed over the Mavrik and other previous models.

Callaway Mavrik Fairway Wood Key Features

The progressive leading edge of the Mavrik fairway wood helps you launch the ball high.

One of the coolest things about the Mavrik fairway woods is that they have a leading edge that really helps you get underneath the ball and launch it high.

The fixed weight in the sole also help pull the CG low and back for high-arcing shots and dead landings.

The Mavrik Family

The standard Mavrik, Mavrik Max and Mavrik Sub Zero all have something to offer different players.

The Mavrik Sub Zero is the Mavrik fairway wood you’re going to want if you are trying to eliminate spin from the deck.

However it lacks a progressive leading edge and therefore produces lower-arcing shots.

The Epic Family

The Epic family may be smaller but both entries pack a punch in terms of distance.

The Epic Max is the only other epic fairway wood that Callaway produces.

However, it does come with an interchangeable weight and has an oversized head so it may be more congenial to high handicappers.

Epic Speed Vs. Epic Max

The Epic Max will be better for high handicappers.

The interchangeable weight of the Epic Max makes it more versatile than the Epic Speed but both yield comparable distance.

Mavrik Vs. Mavrik Max

The Mavrik Max is the more forgiving fairway wood.

The Mavrik Max just makes everything bigger – namely the head.

While this will help increase forgiveness it may also make it feel cumbersome for some players.

Who Is Each Club For?

It really comes down to accuracy Vs. forgiveness with these two fairway woods.

If you are looking for better drop and stop capability than the Mavrik will be more to your liking.

The Epic Speed plays naturally longer so it would be better for people wanting to get down the fairway in a hurry.
