Callaway Solaire Vs Callaway Strata Women’s Golf Club Set Review 2023

The game of golf is not the easiest to pick up, the clubs you use to learn the game can have a massive impact.

Golf is like music, you gotta have the right instruments to make a harmonious sound on the course.

While anyone can reasonably hit a ball with a club, mastering the game is an entirely different matter. This applies to men as well as it does to women.

Making matters worse is the myriad of crummy ladies beginner’s golf club sets.

Using the wrong types of clubs when you are first learning the game can be very frustrating and even cause you to walk away from the game for good.

So in the following review, we are going to be taking a look at a couple of ladies golf club sets that may set you on the path to golf mastery.

An Introduction To Both Sets

Callaway has a reputation for making high-quality, performance golf clubs.

With the Callaway Solaire, the company wanted to marry good looks with performance for all handicap levels. It’s also one of the best-selling women’s golf club sets in recent history.

The Callaway Strata is made both for male and female players. It is an entry-level set of golf clubs that isn’t actually made by Callaway but is sold under the Callaway brand.

That being said, it has been hailed as a great beginner’s set for both men and women.

Callaway Solaire Composition

Callaway Solaire Clubs

For this review we took a look at the 11-piece Solaire set but you can get it in a more expansive 16-piece set if you want. The 11-piece Solaire set includes:

  • Driver – 13 degree loft

  • 3 wood – 18 degree loft

  • 5 Hybrid – 24 degree loft

  • 6 Hybrid – 29 degree loft

  • 7 Iron – 33 degree loft

  • 8 Iron – 38 degree loft

  • 9 Iron – 43 degree loft

  • Pitching Wedge – 48 degree loft

  • Sand Wedge – 56 degree loft

  • Putter – 3 degree loft

Callaway Strata Composition

The Callaway Strata golf club set is a bit more expansive than the Solaire as it includes one more iron than the Solaire. The Strata set includes:

  • Driver – 12 degree loft

  • 3 Wood – 15 degree loft

  • 4 Hybrid – 22 degree loft

  • 5 Hybrid – 25 degree loft

  • 6 Iron – 30 degree loft

  • 7 Iron – 34 degree loft

  • 8 Iron – 38 degree loft

  • Putter – 3 degree loft

Set Options

Both the Callaway Strata and the Solaire come with graphite shafts.

The Strata also come in 11, 14 and 16-piece set versions.

Who Is Each Set For?

The Callaway Strata was designed with beginners in mind.

From driver to putter, this is a very forgiving set that would work best for women who are completely new to the game. The Solaire is the set that will adapt as your game improves.

The Strata set will work great for you if your biggest problem is distance from the tee and deck. However, as your game improves you won’t be able to get much use out of the Strata set.

Composition Comparison

Both the Solaire and Strata women’s golf club sets are outfitted with lightweight graphite shafts.

The Strata also features a full titanium driver and includes the longer 6 iron which we liked.

Performance & Feel Comparison

 Callaway Solaire

We really liked the workability of the Solaire irons.

They had strong lofts so we were easily able to freeze our ball on the green or for strategic approaches. The strata irons weren’t as helpful in terms of accuracy.

However, both the Solaire and the Strata golf club sets felt comfortable from the tee, deck and on the green.

In terms of distance, we were getting about 5 extra yards from the tee with the Strata driver. That distance shrunk as you moved down the set though.

Another feature that helped the Strata play a bit longer was the fact that it came with a full 6 iron.

While this club may be of little use to beginners who have yet to tame the longer irons, intermediate players will get the long iron practice they need.

Price Comparison

  • Callaway Strata – $549
  • Callaway Solaire – $700

Other Sets Worth Considering

Callaway Reva

The Callaway Reva is the women’s version of Callaway’s popular Big Bertha sets.

The Reva set was built for forgiveness and distance. If you have struggled getting the distance you need for effective drives, this is a great option.

Final Assessment

We really liked the fact that the Callaway Strata has a long, forgiving driver.

This is exactly what beginner golfers need. It provides immediate distance help and an immediate boost of confidence.

On the other hand, it won’t grow with you as you improve the way the Solaire set will.

Overall the Solaire set was more workable and accurate.

Even though it doesn’t play quite as long as the Strata set and it’s more expensive, we think it’s overall the superior set that will stay with you as you become a better player but the Strata is much better vale for beginners and also very good in terms of quality. Check them out today!
