Ping G LE Ladies Irons Review – Still Good And Forgiving For High Handicappers?

“The Ping G LE irons were designed to be lightweight and increase distance and forgiveness for female golfers.”

The Ping G LE irons are simply extensions of the already-famous G line of irons. If you know anything about Ping, you know that the G line is synonymous with forgiveness and game improvement.

At a glance, the Ping G LE irons look like the old G irons except for a blue color scheme in the cavity. So I was really hoping that they would offer the same kind of performance. Are the Ping G LE irons good for female high handicappers? Find out in the following review.

Are Ping G LE Ladies Irons Still Good?

“Thankfully, the Ping G LE (Ladies Edition) irons retain some of the same features and technology as the standard G irons.”

Namely the COR-Eye design. The COR-Eye badge basically connects the sole, top line and the face so that the face can flex more without losing stability. In addition, the Ping G LE’s face has been milled thinner than the standard G irons.

It’s also very important to note that the Ping G LE  set consists of both hybrid clubs and irons. You get a 4H, 5H, 6H, 5-iron, 6-iron and so on to the sand wedge.

The face is made of 455 CarTech steel and feels very hot and responsive. The Ping G LE irons have also been designed to be lighter than the standard G irons. They come with lighter, shorter shafts as well.

So basically, everything about these irons was designed for women with slower swing speeds. Obviously, that’s not me so I brought along a female tester. One of the things she mentioned was stability.

She said that the Ping G LE irons felt very stable when she missed out near the toe and the flight proved it. Divergence was tight with these irons. Another thing my testing partner mentioned was consistency.

The spin numbers we were getting from our launch monitor hardly changed (data from the 7-iron) when she worked the ball across the face. This was very surprising and very impressive to both of us as spin numbers should absolutely differ as you shift the ball across the face.

The final verdict after testing was that the Ping G LE irons are still indeed good. But how forgiving were they?

Are the Ping G LE Irons Forgiving for High Handicappers?

“When I finally gave the Ping G LE irons a few whacks, I noticed a couple of things.”

One, I noticed that the hybrids in this set were very forgiving. Just like my testing partner noticed, it didn’t matter where on the face you made contact; you were still going to get moderate spin rates and good ball speed.

The second thing I noticed was that the ball gets out in a hurry. The face of the irons specifically feels incredibly hot. The feedback is clean and more importantly, the face launches the ball like a rocket.

The launch is controlled and neither my testing partner nor I had trouble with ballooning. When you domis-hit your divergence will widen; but that’s true of almost any iron set I can think of.

Overall, we both agreed that the Ping G LE irons were very forgiving which makes sense. Ping is known for making high quality game improvement clubs and the Ping G LE’s are no exception.

The inclusion of three hybrids is a nice touch and can help you cover up some of the distance gaps. The irons play long, consistent and are forgiving.

Ping G LE Vs Ping G LE2 Irons

“The Ping G LE2 irons ditch the COR-Eye technology in favor of a more traditional, unencumbered cavity back design.”

There is also a tungsten toe weight in the actual irons of this set. Speaking of, the Ping G LE2 is also a set that replaces the long irons with hybrids. Teh tungsten weight does a bit more to shrink the divergence down so overall, I think the Ping G LE2 irons are a bit of an upgrade over the original Ping G LE irons.

Ping G LE First Impressions

“My first impression after just a few swings with the irons in this set was that they are high-quality.”

Unfortunately there are a lot of golf club manufacturers who seem to view the ladies clubs they make as afterthoughts. Not Ping. The Ping G LE irons are well-made, thoughtfully designed and are just as good as the older G model irons. You can feel the consistency after a few swings which is something manufacturers can’t fake.

Who Should Buy the Ping G LE Irons?

“The Ping G LE irons would be a great set for lady golfers in the handicap range of 15-25.”

This would also be a good set for any female golfer who wants to increase her swing speed. My testing partner mentioned that the Ping G LE irons play about a half iron longer than her current gamers and are significantly more precise. This is a great, high-quality set of irons for female golfers no matter how you slice it.
