You may have seen Nitro golf clubs on sale at Target or Wal-Mart and have wondered if they’re worth your money.

Nitro is another intriguing golf club manufacturing company because they sell full sets and individual clubs for a very low price.

But if you want to play your best round of golf, you can’t always judge by price alone. Luckily, if you’re been wondering about Nitro golf clubs, you don’t have to. I have tested some of Nitro Golf’s most popular products to see if they are any good.

Who Makes Nitro Clubs?

Nitro Golf used to go by the name of Nitro Leisure Products until they were acquired by a company called Reliable Knitting Works. Today, this is the company that produces Nitro golf clubs. The company is based in Stuart, Florida. They make a wide variety of golf gear including balls and accessories.

Are Nitro Golf Clubs Good for Beginners?

Nitro certainly makes golf clubs that are priced for beginners. And many of their products are indeed aimed at higher handicap and beginner players. While their designs have all the hallmarks of quality game improvement clubs, some have complained about the durability of their products.

Still, many Nitro golf clubs sport an oversized profile in order to be as forgiving as possible. If you are just getting into golf, Nitro clubs offer an affordable alternative that at least deserves consideration.

Nitro Blaster Golf Clubs Review

The Nitro Blaster complete golf club set is made up of a driver, #3 fairway wood, #3 hybrid, irons 5-9, a pitching wedge and a mallet-style putter.

The set also includes a stand bag and rain hood.

The driver is set to 10.5 degrees and has an oversized profile. Behind the ball, it looks very forgiving. It also feels very light throughout your swing. The feel was a little bit hollow but I was able to get straight flight out of this driver even when I missed the sweet spot. So the forgiveness is definitely there. My max carry distance with the Nitro Blaster driver was 254.8 yards.

The fairway wood is set to 15 degrees and has a deep face profile. As a result, I was getting really good ball speed on shots that I hit a bit thin. The launch was mid but the spin rates were really high which may be a problem for players who have a big left or right miss.

The choice to include a #3 hybrid in this set is a bit baffling since you already have a #3 fairway wood. But I suppose if you need extra forgiveness off the tee or fairway, this would be a good club to have – it’s just that either the 3H or #3 fairway wood is likely to be nullified altogether. In any case, the #3 hybrid offers good side-to-side forgiveness and high launch.

The irons have a cavity back design with a little extra mass placed behind the sweet spot. I liked these irons because they played long. With the 7-iron, I averaged a carry distance of 158.4 yards. But they feel a bit harsh and the turf interaction is also a bit on the harsh side.

The putter feels smooth and fluid but the feedback is lacking. If you’re naturally good at putting, this should be no problem for you. But if you need feedback to inform your subsequent putt, this could be a problem.

Who is it for?

The Nitro Blaster complete golf club set would be a decent choice if you are brand new to the game of golf. Unfortunately, either the 3H or #3 fairway wood will likely go unused but other than that, this set gives you every club you need to learn the game.

Nitro X Factor Women’s Golf Club Review

The Nitro X Factor complete set for women includes a driver, #3 fairway wood, a 24 degree hybrid, irons 6-8, pitching/sand wedge and putter.

The driver is set to 12 degrees and features a rear weight port that increases MOI and forgiveness.

It was hard to miss with the driver although the launch was a bit too high to keep out of the wind. But if you find it a challenge to loft the ball, this shouldn’t be a problem for you.

The fairway wood also features a low/rear center of gravity that makes it very easy to get the ball up in the air. I found the launch of the fairway wood to be a lot more controlled and manageable.

The hybrid feels good through the turf and again, promotes easy launch. I definitely sensed a theme with these clubs by the time I tested the hybrid. Other than high launch and good turf interaction though, the Nitro X Factor hybrid plays consistently across the face. I was getting nearly uniform spin and ball speed numbers whether I hit the sweet spot or made contact closer to the heel.

I was a bit disappointed that the Nitro X Factor set only included 4 irons and one of them was a combination pitching/sand wedge. But at least they are forgiving. They have a cavity back design and wide soles which really helped prevent digging. I think high handicappers will get along very well with these irons which makes it even more of a shame that there aren’t more of them.

The putter felt a little clunky and oversized even for a women’s set. But the sole insert felt soft and the rollout was decent for a set at this price point. All the clubs in this set save for the putter come with graphite shafts.

Who is it for?

The Nitro X Factor set is for female players who have trouble getting the ball in the air. Almost every club in this set is easy to launch.

Nitro Crossfire Golf Club Set Review

The Nitro Crossfire golf club set is for junior players aged 9-12.

The set consists of a driver, fairway wood, 7 iron, 9 iron and a putter. All of the clubs are sized for junior players and they all have graphite shafts.

The irons have a cavity back design and the woods are as big as they can be without being too heavy. The mallet-style putter is easy to use and should allow junior players to start learning the short game.

Who is it for?

The Nitro Crossfire is a good choice if you want to get your child interested in golf. All the essentials are here; just don’t expect the clubs to last too long.

Is Nitro A Good Brand? – Final Thoughts

Nitro is a good brand if you don’t mind golf clubs that don’t last too long.

There have been many complaints about the durability of Nitro clubs. From what I can tell though, Nitro is still a good brand for beginners to learn the game even if they will eventually need an upgrade as they get better.
