Nippon NS Pro 105T Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

If you are looking for a steel iron shaft that doesn’t feel harsh but still gives you tour-level performance, the Nippon NS Pro 105T should definitely be on your radar.

The entire NS Pro series of shafts is known for its smooth feel and acute control.

With the Nippon NS Pro 105T, Nippon has introduced a tour-grade shaft that is playable for the rest of us mortals. But will the Nippon NS Pro 105T shaft be a good fit for you? Read on to find out!

Nippon NS Pro 105T Shaft Overview

The look of this shaft is pretty much what you would expect from Nippon: it has red/white lettering on top of a polished chrome finish. It doesn’t draw too much attention at point of address – especially if you’re like me and you’ve already seen a bunch of Nippon shafts. Still, the Nippon NS Pro 105T has a clean, balanced look overall.

As advertised, the Nippon NS Pro 105T has a smooth feel. The kick point is in the middle of the shaft but you have to swing relatively hard to feel it. Even the most aggressive swings won’t bend this shaft out of shape though. Even under a heavy load, there is only the meagerest of whips in this shaft. On top of that, it recovers extremely well.

Another thing I noticed about the Nippon NS Pro 105T shaft when testing it was that it was very consistent. The action in the midsection corresponded almost exactly to how hard I was swinging. There were no surprises. When I really loaded up, it felt pleasantly (but mildly) active. When I took it easy, there was almost no action. But the shot dispersion remained very tight.

The Nippon NS Pro 105T shaft also feels surprisingly lightweight. For a shaft that is touted as being tour-worthy, I was expecting a much heavier feel. But the Nippon NS Pro 105T still felt nimble on my backswing while providing some substance for me to work with on my downswing.

Why is the Nippon NS Pro 105T So Popular?

The Nippon NS Pro 105T builds off of the success of the original NS Pro line.

It delivers the same smooth feel; but with even more control. I can see why this is a popular shaft among faster, more aggressive swingers. It keeps up with a fast swing speed and allows you to swing out of your shoes.

How Does the Nippon NS Pro 105T Perform?

Let’s start with distance. I felt like the Nippon NS Pro 105T was begging me to swing outside of myself because it felt light in the hands, and after just a few practice swings, I could tell that it could take a heavy load. So I stepped up to the tee with my 6-iron and proceeded to launch the ball 161 yards. On the next swing, I crushed it to 164 yards. After a while, I started to see diminishing returns but only because I was getting tired.

The bottom line is that I felt like I could swing outside of myself with this shaft and that resulted in greater distance for me. I can imagine that the Nippon NS Pro 105T will have the same effect on most moderate to fast swing speed players. And throughout all those full-on swings, I never saw my off-line divergence exceed 8 yards…from the tee.

Off the deck was a different story. This is where the weight made a difference. I was leaving chunky divots behind on the deck with my long irons. To be fair though, I am not used to long iron shafts of this weight. In any case, I wasn’t getting the same kind of distance off the deck as I was from the tee.

Who Should Buy it?
