Mizuno T Zoid Sure Irons Review? Still Good & They Forgiving for High Handicappers?
“When I first got the Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons in for testing, I was a bit surprised because they don’t look like what I’m used to seeing from Mizuno.”
Making the situation even more poignant for me was the fact that I had no experience with the Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons up until I tested them.
In fact, I didn’t even know they existed. But I soon got acquainted with them and could tell right away why people are still using these clubs.
I don’t like to give a lot away in the intro but in this case I can’t help it: the Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons are very forgiving.
But it takes more than forgiveness for irons to be a solid fit for most high handicappers.
In the following review, you will learn about the specific performance aspects of these irons so you can make a sound decision as to whether you should pick the Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons up.
Are Mizuno T Zoid Sure Irons Still Good?
“The Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons are cavity back irons that have an oversized profile.”
From the above description, you should be able to tell why I was surprised when I saw these irons. “Oversized” and “cavity back” aren’t terms that are exactly synonymous with Mizuno.
So I didn’t know what I was going to get when I tested them.
The Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons have something called the “T-Zoid” power bar which is apparently a bracing bar that stretches the length of the cavity.
The purpose of this bar is to give the irons a more stable feel and to help resist twisting on mis-hits.
The cavity also stretches across the entire back of the club. Make no mistake about it: these aren’t cavity/muscle hybrids.
These are full-on cavity back irons so a maximum amount of mass has been repositioned to the perimeter of the face.
The Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons are stainless steel cast irons; but somehow they feel a bit softer than your average cast cavity backs.
Away from the sweet spot, you don’t get stingers up your arms. But you still know when you missed the sweet spot – you just don’t get unjustly punished for it.
And of course, the oversized head creates a larger sweet spot. At first, I was confused by the “Sure” nomenclature of these irons.
But after testing I was “sure” what it was all about…
Are the Mizuno T Zoid Sure Irons Forgiving for High Handicappers?
“Yes. Over and over, yes.”
I know what the “Sure” indicates now: sure shots. My first swing was with the 4-iron off the tee and I was blown away with how straight the flight was.
This was my very first swing with an iron I have never played before and my off-line divergence was 4.3 yards. Amazing. And it didn’t stop there. The entire set yielded excellent dispersion.
The Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons may not look like the Mizuno irons I’m used to but the consistency was in-line with the Mizuno brand.
Shot after shot, I was hitting my target or falling within a few yards of it.
I felt “sure” of my shots after just one swing which was incredible for me. The sweet spot is large and it’s hard to miss.
The launch is high but controlled. I didn’t have to worry about floating the ball whether I was playing off the tee, deck or around the green.
The turf interaction is nothing to write home about; but it wasn’t a huge deterrent for me.
I was still able to get good distance and launch off the deck which indicated that I wasn’t losing much club head speed because of the average (or possibly) sub average turf interaction.
So to answer the question at hand in a definitive manner: yes, the Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons are forgiving.
Your mis-hits won’t even look like mis-hits.
Mizuno T Zoid Sure Vs Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal HL Irons
“The Hot Metal irons are considered super game improvement irons.”
And they look the part. Compared to the Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons, the Mizuno T Zoid Sure JPX923 Hot Metal HL irons have a very wide sole and wide top line.
They are cast of chromoly metal which feels very reactive and just a touch on the soft side.
The wider sole makes the Hot Metal irons play smoother through the turf; but I was more worried about ballooning with them.
The Mizuno T Zoid Sure irons also played longer.
Mizuno T Zoid Sure First Impressions
“Based on the looks alone, I didn’t have sky-high hopes for these irons.”
They look like average cavity back irons which is not something I equate with Mizuno. But they won me over very quickly.
They always seem to find their target. And despite being cast stainless steel irons, you still get good feedback.

Mizuno T-Zoid Sure Key Technology
T-Zoid Bracing Bar
I suspect the stabilizing bar is what gives these irons their accuracy and forgiveness. Toe/heel-side mis-hits were flying incredibly straight for me.
Cavity Back
The cavity back may be on the shallow side; but it spans across the entire back of the club head.
Moderate Launch
Loft is a bit on the weak side; but not too weak. So you end up with height when you need it and control when finesse is required.
