Mitsubishi Tensei Orange Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

Mitsubishi Tensei Orange Shaft

The Tensei series of shafts from Mitsubishi Chemical Group is known for offering great feel and many choices for golfers.

Their Tensei Blue, White and Red shafts make it easier to select the bend profile that works best for your swing.

With the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange, the company has entered the foray of counterbalanced shafts and have given golfers yet another fitting choice.

If you are a fan of Tensei shafts but have never tried the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange, do yourself a favor and read the rest of this review.

In it, you will find out everything you need to know about this shaft including what kind of player it performs best for.

Mitsubishi Tensei Orange Shaft Overview

First and foremost, the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange is a counterbalanced shaft. But what does that mean?

It means that more mass has been placed in the butt of the shaft which will in turn, make the head feel lighter and easier to swing.

Counterbalancing is a popular option in driver shafts because it makes the length much more manageable. More importantly though, counterbalancing is all about added distance.

Counterbalancing makes a longer club feel easier to swing since the mass at both ends are matched up better.

This means you will likely be able to swing the club faster. And faster swings typically result in longer drives.

In the case of the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange, it did in fact produce more distance; but at the expense of accuracy.

We’ll talk more about that in a minute. For now, you should know that the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange has an active feel that is well-confined to the midsection.

The overall torque is low though – the highest torque you can get is 5.0° and that comes in the lightest offering in the Tensei Orange series (54g).

The Mitsubishi Tensei Orange also has the stiffest tip section of the entire Tensei lineup; but the softest but stiffness.

The graphics are the same as the other Tensei shafts – a smoky background with a visible carbon fiber weave near the butt – except of course for the orange band in the midsection.

Why is the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange So Popular?

Mitsubishi Tensei Orange Shaft1

The Tensei series of shafts is known for utilizing complex materials in order to achieve an exceptionally smooth feel throughout your swing.

The Mitsubishi Tensei Orange is no different. One of the best things about this shaft is that it feels silky even when you put a serious load on it.

How Does the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange Perform?

The Mitsubishi Tensei Orange is advertised to be low-launching.

However, that’s not exactly what we experienced in our testing session. We would say that the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange is more of a mid launch shaft.

In fact, we recently tested the Tensei Blue and it produced slightly lower launch angles than the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange.

So the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange is mid launch, that’s not a huge deal and it will actually benefit some players.

What will benefit nearly every kind of player is the distance. So long as you can swing your driver above 85 MPH you should be able to get some serious carry out of it.

We certainly did. Our average carry distance after three swings each was 266.9 yards.

Spin rates stayed in the low 2000 RPM range which may have affected divergence a bit.

The shot dispersion we got from the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange was higher than expected. It didn’t produce insane hooks or slices; but let’s just say you couldn’t use this shaft to launch a ball down a hallway.

With that all being said, the Mitsubishi Tensei Orange does feel very easy to swing. The action is in the midsection but it is tempered very well with the super-stiff tip section.
