The LIV Golf League has taken the golfing world by storm over the past few months.

Shotgun starts, big names, live music and a party atmosphere is what LIV Golf is all about. They are looking to change the way we watch golf, and they are doing a pretty good job doing it.

Love it or hate it Greg Norman and his team have put on a proper show over the last two events, with the third one finishing this weekend.

Who Has Joined The LIV Golf League

For the first events only a few of the big names played in the event, since then the numbers have grown substantially with some of the biggest names in the game heading over the the LIV Golf League.

The first event saw Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Louis Oosthuizen and Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter,  Brandon Grace and Charl Shwartzel(the eventual winner).

The second event saw the likes of Patrick Reed, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Matthew Wolff and Pat Perez join the crew.

Moving onto Bedminster, the venue for the 3rd event. Even more players have jumped ship from the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, Abraham Ancer, Jason Kokrak, Paul Casey, Charles Howell III and the Ryder Cup Captain Henrik Stenson.

With the field as strong as this, and with a slight twist to the way you usually see golf being played, you can see why there is such a big hype around the LIV Golf League.

How Much Does The Winner Earn In LIV Golf League?

Charl Shwartzel and Brandon Grace were the winners of the first two events of the LIV Golf League, the two South Africans took home a mighty $4million for the individual prize each.

The first seven events will have a purse of $25million, $20million going to individual prizes and $5million for the top three teams.

At the end of the seven events there will be an ‘Individual Champion’ with a bonus pool of $30million for the top-three players of the season. The eighth event will be a Team Championship with a $50million total prize fund.

You can see why these top names are joining the LIV Golf League, the money is just unheard of.

Have The LIV Golf Players Been Banned From The PGA And DP World Tour?

Yes they have, the PGA Tour have suspended any of their players that have joined the LIV Golf League indefinitely, the WP World Tour only gave their members that joined a fine for playing the first event and banned them from three events thereafter, but no indefinite suspensions have yet been given yet.

“LIV Golf’s expanding global platform will add a new dimension to the golf ecosystem as we know it, one that provides an opportunity for players and fans around the world to help maximize our beloved sport’s true potential,” said Greg Norman.

He added “Our franchise model will bring new energy and excitement to fans from all corners of the world, establishing a league of teams to connect and grow with.”

What Is The 14 Event Schedule In 2023 for LIV Golf

LIV Golf announced on Wednesday that 48 players and 12 team franchises would compete in a 14-event Golf League in 2023, expanding from an 8-event schedule this year.

The total prize money will be $405million, with a similar season to this year where there will be a matchplay finale to end off the series.

The organizers have said “we will not be competing with the Majors, international team events or heritage events”.

The full list of tournaments have not been announced yet, we expect them only to come out after the series comes to an end this year.

A new addition to this all is that the LIV Golf League players will also be expected to play in International Series tournaments – events played in partnership with the Asian Tour. This will be interesting to see how it goes down with some of the big names that have joined the league.

The LIV Golf organization will put on a total of 25 tournaments worldwide in 2023.

Conclusion

The LIV Golf League has definitely taken off, only time will tell how things pan out, but with their larger schedule next year, and more money on the line it can only draw more big names to come play.

It will be interesting to see how long the PGA Tour and DP World Tour keep their stand strong, they are only as strong as the names that are playing in the events.

P.S. we heard through the grapevine that a few Australians might be joining the LIV Golf League.
