Hideki Matsuyama: Career Golf
In 2010 when Matsuyama won the Asian Amateur Championship, he was allowed to compete as an amateur in the prestigious 2011 Masters Tournament, becoming the first Japanese amateur to do so.
Not only was he the only Japanese amateur to make the cut, but he managed to be the lowest-scoring amateur winning him the Silver Cup. Not even a week after this incredible feat, Matsuyama tied for third at the Japan Open Golf Championship.
In 2011, Matsuyama won the gold medal in the 2011 World University Games and led the Japan team to win a gold medal in the team event. As if this wasn’t enough for that year, Matsuyama went on to win the Mitsui Sumitomo VISA Taiheiyo Masters on the Japan Golf tour while still being an amateur.
In August 2012, Matsuyama reached the pinnacle of his amateur career by becoming number one in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Matsuyama turned professional in early April 2013 and won the Japan Golf Tour’s second professional tournament, the 2013 Tsuruya Open. Five weeks later, Matsuyama went on to win his third victory on the Japan Golf Tour at the Diamond Cup tournament.
In 2014 Matsuyama qualified for the PGA Tour. In just seven PGA Tour events, he has had six top-25 finishes, including a T6 at the 2013 Open Championship.
After he earned his first PGA win at the 2014 Memorial Tournament, Matsuyama became known for being the first Asian golfer to win a World Golf Championship since 1999.
Sadly, Matsuyama withdrew from the 2016 Olympics due to the Covid epidemic.

Hideki Matsuyama was born on the 25th of February 1992 in Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan.
His father introduced him to golf at the tender age of 4 years old.
During his eighth grade, he was transferred to Meitoku Gijuku Junior & Secondary High School in Kochi Prefecture due to his talent at the sport.
