“On the surface, there isn’t a lot to differentiate the Callaway Paradym from the Callaway Paradym X irons.”

But looks can be deceiving. We tested the Callaway Paradym and the Callaway Paradym X irons side-by-side and I can tell you right now that these sets are not interchangeable by any means.

It can be hard to make a choice between these two sets though since they share so many of the same features.

But if you are considering one of these sets you need to read the following comparison review to the end.

Callaway Paradym Irons Overview

“Like the Callaway Paradym X irons, the standard Callaway Paradym irons have a hollow-body design and the face is forged from 455 stainless steel.”

The hollow body design really helps push distance no matter what swing speed you’re working with.

And while both the Callaway Paradym and Callaway Paradym X irons played hot off the face, one was clearly easier to hit.

Looking down at these irons side-by-side, you can see that the Callaway Paradym irons have less offset and narrower soles.

The Callaway Paradym irons look cleaner at address; but are a bit finicky unless you are used to compact blades.

And while these two iron sets are made from the same stuff, there is a bit less girth in the soles of the Callaway Paradym irons.

This made the feel a lot crisper and the feedback a lot clearer.

To put it curtly, the Callaway Paradym irons are what you would expect players performance irons to look, feel, sound and play like.

Callaway Paradym X Irons Overview

“The Callaway Paradym X irons have stronger lofts than the Callaway Paradym irons.”

Irons 4-6 are two degrees stronger than the Callaway Paradym irons. Irons 7-8 are 1.5 degrees stronger and the 9-iron is 1 degree stronger.

But despite the stronger lofts, the Callaway Paradym X irons launch about as high as the Callaway Paradym irons.

That’s because there is more weight placed in the sole. The Callaway Paradym X irons have 79 grams of tungsten in the long irons compared to 67 grams in the Callaway Paradym irons.

Our testers reported that they didn’t have to change their swing very much to get clean contact both off the tee and off the deck.

My own experience was similar. Even though I play blades with less offset than the Callaway Paradym Xs, the offset wasn’t so wide that I couldn’t adjust.

In fact, I didn’t have to adjust very much at all to achieve optimal height and distance.

Still, the Callaway Paradym X irons spun too much for my liking. Flush shots that usually fly straight for me were producing wider cuts in the Callaway Paradym Xs.

Overview Conclusion

“I wouldn’t say that either of these irons are pure game improvement irons.”

Even the Callaway Paradym Xs with their wider offset and soles would be good fits in the bags of mid handicappers.

The Callaway Paradym irons on the other hand would work well for both mid and low handicappers.

Both provide excellent distance with the Callaway Paradym irons playing a little bit longer for me because of the slightly lower launch and low spin.

But it’s telling that the Callaway Paradym X irons felt very comfortable for me.

They may not be the most forgiving irons on the market; but they are very easy to swing and offer good spin control around the pin – a combo that will appeal to many different types of players.
