Callaway Paradym Vs Callaway Mavrik Driver Reviews & Specs

“For today’s comparison, we thought we’d pit the brand new Callaway Paradym driver to the older yet still viable Mavrik driver.”

It’s a battle of Callaway past and present. We were very excited to see just how far Callaway has come with their driver design and testing the new Paradym driver against the Mavrik that came out three years ago was a great way to do so.

The Callaway Mavrik was forgiving and long back then and it is still helping higher handicap players lower their scores. Meanwhile, the Callaway Paradym sees the company going all-in on the carbonwood era by incorporating an unprecedented amount of carbon fiber into the design of this driver. Read on to find out everything you need to know about these two drivers.

Callaway Mavrik and the Callaway Paradym Drivers In Detail

“It should be noted that the new paradym drivers come in three distinct versions.”

There is the standard Paradym version which is the one we will be testing for this comparison. It is the only one in the new line to feature a 15-gram adjustable weight. The Paradym X driver was built to be the most forgiving with a fixed rear weight and elongated head shape. The Paradym Triple Diamond has the most compact head shape and a volume of 450cc.

The Mavrik also comes in a standard and Max version. For this comparison, we will be using the standard version. The Max version features interchangeable weights that allows players to increase draw bias if they need to.

Key Selling Points of the Callaway Mavrik Driver

  • The Flash Face SS20 is made of treated stainless steel and imparts a solid feel and a satisfying sound.
  • The titanium face insert is used to increase ball speeds as titanium can be milled thinner than steel.
  • Jailbreak bracing arms keep the head stiff to resist twisting at impact.
  • A carbon crown adorns the Mavrik driver in order to keep the overall weight down.
  • The Mavrik driver was one of the first Callaway drivers to feature the Cyclone Aero head design that is supposed to reduce drag on your downswing.

Overall Score: 96/100

Loft Comparison

“Both the Callaway Mavrik and the Paradym driver come in 9, 10.5 and 12 degree loft versions.”

The flight of the Paradym driver was slightly lower than that of the Callaway Mavrik overall though.

What Shaft Options Do You Get With Each Driver?

Callaway Mavrik

“There are still plenty of shaft options for the Callaway Mavrik.”

For instance, you can choose an Aldila Rogue White in regular, stiff and extra stiff flex or a Project X EvenFlow Riptide shaft in light, regular, stiff and extra stiff flex.

Callaway Paradym

“There are a few different options for the Paradym drivers.”

Callaway makes available a Aldila Ascent PL Blue, Project X HZRDUS Gen 4  Silver, Project X HZRDUS Gen 4 Black or a Fujikura Ventus TR Blue shaft.

Who is Best Suited to Each Driver?

“Our testers liked the light weight and low launch of the Paradym driver.”

If your swing will benefit from lower launch and slightly faster ball speeds, the Callaway Paradym would be the better choice. The Callaway Mavrik was overall better for our testers who needed a bit more forgiveness. The Callaway Mavrik would also be a good choice if you’re swinging your driver under 85 MPH.

Distance Comparison

“On accurate strikes, the Callaway Paradym was the longer driver.”

On qualifying shots (face-center shots) our testers were averaging 244.1 yards with the Paradym driver. Conversely, on the same types of shots, our testers were averaging 239.6 yards with the Mavrik.

Forgiveness

“The sliding rear weight of the Callaway Paradym driver will do a lot to help cover up your mis-hit.”

However, you really have to take some time to dial the weight in – something best left to your fitter. The Callaway Mavrik was the more naturally forgiving driver.. It had high enough MOI to keep errant shots online and the face profile is deep enough to expand the hitting zone.

While the face of the Mavrik isn’t as explosive (some distance loss), you still get straight shots – if that’s what you happen to need.

How Do They Compare on Price?

These days, you can get the Callaway Mavrik for around $300. The Paradym driver on the other hand runs for $600 from Callaway.

Which Driver Do We Recommend?

“Unless you need that little extra bit of forgiveness, we would recommend the Callaway Paradym driver.”

While the Mavrik may help you increase your swing speed and accuracy from the pin, the Callaway Paradym is capable of the same feats. Plus, you get the added bonus of adjustable CG and a lighter overall club head.

Conclusion on the Taylormade Paradym Vs Callaway Mavrik Drivers

“The Paradym represents major upgrades from the already proven Callaway Mavrik driver.”

It’s hard to argue with progress. While the Callaway Mavrik is still a great choice if you need a fast, long and forgiving driver and you’re on a budget, if you have the extra money to spend, go for the Callaway Paradym. It does everything the Callaway Mavrik does, only better.
