Callaway Mavrik vs Ping G410 Irons Review & Specs 2023
Looking for a good set of game improvement irons but can’t come to a conclusive decision? We don’t blame you.
The market is flooded with so called game improvement irons that in the end, don’t seem to offer anything unique from one another.
The differences can be hard to spot without really testing irons against each other on the course.
So we did just that. In the following review, you will read about our experience with 2 high-profile game improvement iron sets and we will give you our honest opinion. Let’s get started.
A Brief Intro
Callaway Mavrik
The Callaway Mavrik irons are the successor to their Rogue irons which pioneered artificial intelligence design.
The A.I. brain trust helped roll out the Flash Face design that become wildly popular. And again, A.I. was used in the development in the Mavrik irons.
Ping G410
The Ping G410 are the 10th iteration of the fabled Ping G series. But they stand in stark contrast to past models.
The developers placed a higher priority on streamlined design and player-friendly looks. As a result the G410’s have less pronounced offset and shorter blades.
Ping G410 Key Features
The Ping G410’s implement what is essentially a free-floating face.
The hinged face allows for more flex and ball speed but the weighting in the toe and hosel provide balance and high MOI. The Ping G410’s also feature a mostly hollow head design.
Callaway Mavrik Key Features
The A.I. design has come up with unique face architecture for every iron in the set.
This helps maintain ball speed for the different lofts. Callaway has also used urethane microspheres inside the head to dampen vibration and improve feel.
Who is Each Set For?
While both of these sets fall into the game-improvement category, they have different points of emphasis.
The Mavrik’s prioritize better feel and tighter shot dispersion/gap coverage throughout the set. So if feel and predictable flight/distance is your cup of tea, the Mavrik’s would be a good fit.
You can also get the Mavrik Max for high handicappers or the Mavrik Pro for the better players among us.
The G410’s on the other hand are more about looking great at point of address and going farther. If you are a mid-handicapper looking to get down the fairway quicker, the G410’s would suit your more congenially.

Composition Comparison
The Ping G410’s feature a rear medallion that is made of aluminum and elastomer to help with vibration dampening. Other than that, they feature a steel head design and are available in both graphite and steel shafts.
The Mavrik irons feature Tungsten infused weights in side the head to help produce higher ball speeds. There are also urethane microspheres that help with vibration dampening.
Performance Comparison
The Ping G410 had starkly higher loft angles than the G410’s.
Understandably, we were getting higher arcing shots with them which was helpful for getting over hazards. But there was definitely something lacking in terms of feel with the G410’s.
The Mavrik’s on the other hand were more forgiving and felt silky smooth. While they weren’t launching as high as the G410’s, they were providing more flex lower on the face and overall, more distance.
Price Comparison
There’s not much money that will separate these two sets. The Mavrik’s run about $800 while you can pick up a set of the G410’s for about $780.

Final Say
So what did we learn in our testing? Which set of irons is better? We really liked the Callaway Mavrik’s.
While they lacked the player’s look and profile, they delivered when it mattered most.
They provided better spin control around the green and lower shot trajectory and higher velocity.
The 410’s definitely looked better at address. Lower handicap players will probably like their streamlined design as well. But as far as game-improvement, they were lacking. They are more for players whose game is already in the upper echelon.
So if you are a mid handicapper looking to for the next breakthrough in your game, we recommend the Callaway Mavrik irons. Be sure to look them up soon.
