Brooke Henderson’s Bio

Brooke Mackenzie Henderson was born on September 10, 1997, in Smith Falls, Ontario. Southwest of the Canadian capital, Ottawa.

She is the youngest child of Dave and Darlene Henderson and the younger sister of Brittany.

Dave coaches Brooke, while Brittany, who also played competitive golf at College, is on her bag.

Henderson started swinging a golf club at the age of 3 because she wanted to play with her dad and sister.

When she was fourteen, she bagged her first professional tournament trophy by winning the 2012 Beloeil Golf Club event on the CN Canadian Women’s Tour.

She went on to win a few additional CN Canadian Women’s Tour events before testing her skills in the LPGA as an amateur. As a 16-year old, Brooke managed to finish in a tie for tenth at the 2014 US Women’s Open, seven shots behind eventual champion Michelle Wie. In total, she competed in eight LPGA events as an amateur, making the cut in six and earning a top 10. Her form as a teenager catapulted her to world number one Amateur.

At the end of 2014, it was evident that Brooke had what it took to make it on Tour, and she turned Pro. Even though she had committed to the University of Florida.

Since she was 17, she was ineligible for LPGA Q Tour Q School and petitioned for an age waiver.

However, she was denied, forcing her to play in Monday Qualifiers or rely on a Sponsors Exemption to gain entry into LPGA Tournaments.

In April 2015, Henderson broke the 36-hole record at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic with -9 par. She went on to finish 3rd behind Lydia Ko.

Two months later, the Canadian was challenging the leaderboard again. This time, she went on to win the Four Winds Invitational and gain her Symetra Tour card.

In August 2015, Henderson made her way through Monday qualifying to earn a spot on the tee sheet at the Cambria Portland Classic.

But that wasn’t good enough for her. She proceeded to annihilate the field by eight shots, claiming the biggest margin of victory for that year.

As a result of her sublime performance in Oregon, LPGA Tour Commissioner Mike Whan granted her LPGA membership.

As a non-member Pro on the LPGA, she earned $661,264. In total, she played fourteen events that season and made thirteen cuts.

Included in her 2015 portfolio were tied for fifth finishes at the Women’s PGA Championship and US Women’s Open.

2016 was her first full season on the LPGA Tour, and Henderson did not disappoint.

She played in thirty-one events and made the cut in thirty of them, earning $1,724,420, good enough for third on the money list.

In the same year, she secured the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship title and had the second-most birdies and top ten finishes on Tour. Her win at the Women’s PGA Championship made her the second youngest Major winner, behind Lydia Ko.

Henderson claimed another two victories in 2017, the Meijer LPGA Classic and the McKayson New Zealand Women’s Open. Her win in Australasia was the first off the North American continent.

In addition, she made twenty-eight cuts and earned $1,504,869, good enough for sixth on the money rankings.

The following season Brooke continued her winning form bagging the Lotte Championship and CP Women’s Open. By winning the CP Open, she became the first Canadian to do so since 1973. Her consistent form saw her surpass $1 million in season earnings for the third consecutive year.

2019 saw Henderson lift more silverware as she defended her Lotte Championship title and won the Meijer LPGA Classic. Once again, she earned over $1 million in prize money and won the ESPY for Best Female Golfer.

The shortened 2020 season was Brooke’s first winless year since turning professional. However, she managed to notch up a runner-up finish at the ANA Inspiration and bring in $648,604 in prize money, good enough for sixth on the Order of Merit.

In 2021, Henderson was back in the winner’s circle at the Hugel-Air Premia La Open, where she defeated Jessica Korda by one shot. She raked in over $1 million in prize money and finished fourteenth on the money list.
