Anna Rawson: Early Life And Parents

On August 05, 1981, Anna Rawson was delivered earth-side in the Wintery month of August, in Adelaide, Australia.

Anna and her younger brother, Willy Rawson were raised by their father after experiencing the tragic death of her mother at the age of 4.

When Anna was growing up, her father (Jim Rawson) and mother (Dianna Rawson) got divorced which led Dianna into a downward spiral of extreme depression.

Although Dianna sought the help she needed and was placed into a mental hospital, she later took her own life when Anna was just 5 years old, leaving her family heartbroken and distraught.

Consequently, Anna had a tough childhood growing up. She had to adapt to this new normal of life without a mother, a pain no child should endure. However, her father Jim was a great support system and someone whom she grew very close to.

Jim Rawson was a former footballer in Glenelg, and they shared their love of the sport. Anna admitted that the only reason she began playing golf was to get close to her father and brother when her mother died, but soon realized that it was something she enjoyed (and the cute golfers helped!).

Anna used golf as a coping mechanism when she was feeling particularly down about her mother’s passing, which improved her skill and soon allowed her hobby to become a career. What a dream!

Rawson attended St. Martin Boarding School and later completed her education through homeschooling. Anna admits that deciding which university to go to was based on naivety rather than logic.

She received offers from outstanding colleges such as Yale and Harvard but was later accepted to Immanuel College in Southern Australia because the weather wasn’t as poor.

Following her journey to Immanuel college, Anna went and studied at the University of Southern California where she obtained the All-Pac 10 honorable mention on three separate occasions. Talk about beauty and brains!

Anna started her career as a model and continued to play golf.

Starting her career in golf as an amateur, Anna has come a long way since then. In her early twenties, she managed to claim the title of South Australian and Victorian Junior Champion as well as the winner of the Jack Newton International Junior Classic.

In 2004 she turned professional, playing a full season on future Tours and only just missed the cut for the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) qualifying tournament. However, this did not appear to stop her.

In 2005, Anna came third in the Ladies European Tour (LET), naming her a 2006 LET rookie. Additionally, she was invited to join the LGPA tour in 2007 – something many aspiring golfers only dream of.
