Callaway Strata Vs Wilson SGi Golf Club Set Review 2023
If you are in the market for a complete set of beginner’s golf clubs, then you have probably come across the two sets we will be talking about in this review.
And you still may be on the fence between them because quite frankly, there are very few reliable reviews and/or descriptions for them.
But in today’s reviews we are going to be taking an unbiased look at these beginner’s sets. We will also describe their specifications in plain detail so everyone can understand their differences. Let’s get started.
A Brief Intro To Both Sets
Wilson Profile SGI
The Wilson SGI golf clubs were designed to respond to the lack of diversity in the category of beginner golf clubs.
They can be adjusted with a number of length and loft options and come in a variety of sizes.
Callaway Strata
The Callaway Strata brand is the culmination of both Top Flight and Spalding’s forays into club manufacturing.
They are also a beneficial set for beginners that emphasize distance, forgiveness and healthy progress down the fairway.
Wilson SGI Key Features
The Wilson SGI set was made for distance.
From the titanium driver to the irons that feature deep undercuts; they will help you get farther quicker.
Callaway Strata Key Features
The Callaway Strata complete golf set is packed with features that are congenial to beginners and high-handicappers.
Apart from including 2 hybrid clubs, the Strata set was made for forgiveness in the long and short game.
What’s Included in the Wilson SGI Set
Driver
The oversized head of the driver in this set features a composite titanium design. 460cc’s of power help drive the distance of this club. It’s set to 10.5 degrees of loft.
5 Wood
High loft and a large sweet spot highlight the design of this fairway wood. It comes standard with a graphite shaft.
5 Hybrid
The hybrid in this set features a thin face design usually reserved for more expensive clubs. This design ensures high ball speeds and better distance.
Irons
You get irons 6-9 in the SGI set. Each one features a cavity back design congenial to new players.
Wedges
The sand and pitching wedges in this set feature a compact head design for more accuracy.
Putter
The putter is heel/toe weighted for maximum balance and MOI (moment of inertia).
What’s Included In The Callaway Strata Set
Driver
Your Strata driver comes with it’s own head cover for the full titanium design. It’s set to 12 degrees of loft.
Woods
You get a #3 and #5 wood in the set. Both sport an aerodynamic shape to help get your swing speed up.
Hybrids
The Strata set comes with 2 hybrids: a #4 and a #5. They are much easier to manage on the fairway than your longer irons.
Irons
Irons 6-9 in this set also feature a cavity back design and enough undercut to launch the ball high into the air.
Wedges
The set comes with a pitching wedge and a sand wedge. The wedges are set to 46 and 56 degrees of loft respectively.
Putter
You get face-milled design with the putter in this set. This is a feature usually reserved for advanced club sets that enhances feel and roll control.

Composition Comparison
The irons in the Wilson SGI set are composed of 431 stainless steel. The driver features a forged titanium composite design with a graphite shaft.
The irons in the Callaway Strata set also feature stainless steel heads while the driver is full titanium. The other clubs in the set are also composed of stainless steel.
Performance Comparison
We liked the short-game performance of the Callaway Strata set.
The high quality grooves in the shorter irons actually provided a decent amount of spin control. The deep undercuts and large sweet spot also made them more forgiving.
But if you are more concerned with distance at this point in your game then the Wilson SGI clubs have more to offer. While not as accurate or workable in the short irons and wedges; the woods have very large sweet spots and provided more distance.
Price Comparison
The average price for a set of men’s standard length Wilson SGI clubs is around $350.
The Callaway Strata set will run you about $450.

Final Say
The Strata set seemed to be designed more with beginner to intermediate players in mind.
It has features that will help you as you refine your short game like precision grooves for greenside spin control.
But for straight-up beginners, we think the Wilson SGI set will instill more confidence and be of better use.
It provides more distance on the front end overall.
The Strata’s will grow with you, but if you need a pure beginner’s set, check the Wilson SGI clubs out first.
