The TaylorMade Noodle Long & Soft Golf Balls are a great place to start with Taylormade golf balls. These balls have a ridiculously low compression rating of just 34! This makes them incredibly soft and springy.

The best thing about these balls is the distance you get off the tee. While they can be a bit hard to work in thicker grass conditions, off the tee they fly effortlessly far. You won’t need a fast swing speed to get long drives with these balls.

Because they are so soft and long, we would recommend them to new players or anyone with a slower swing speed. And while the main event here is the distance, they provide good spin around the green as well.

The soft core gives way to increasingly stiff layers which makes for good greenside control and distance on full swings. For anyone that prioritizes great feel from their golf balls, the TaylorMade TP5x Golf Balls would be a great choice.

If Taylormade says one of their balls is soft, you better believe it will be soft. The TaylorMade Soft Response Golf Balls have a compression rating of 35 and they are the epitome of the movement towards soft, fast balls in golf.

They feature shallow U-shaped dimples which helps cut down on wind resistance and promotes high arcing shots and lots of carry. The ionomer cover is soft and great for seniors or players with a smooth swing tempo and slower swing speed.

This would also be a great ball choice for players who are struggling getting the ball up in the air. We were impressed with the long game spin rates of these balls as well – they were nice and low. While this presented something of a problem with our irons, the low spin will be more than welcome by higher handicap players.

Plus, these balls have a urethane cover which provides the best feel, response and control in our humble opinion. Greenside spin control is also amazing with these balls. If you’re playing inside 100 yards then you will be able to stop the ball dead even on fast greens.

These balls allow for acute spin control with the shorter irons and wedges. The firmer layer just under the cover material (like in the TP5x balls) provides more control than a standard soft ball so these are great all-around performance balls.

While the spin rates were relatively high, they still went far thanks to the expanded core which saves more energy.

Our higher handicap testers were seeing drive distance increases between 7 and 11 yards. From our testing, we have to conclude that these balls would provide an instant increase in distance for most high handicap players.

The SpeedMantle design helps to preserve more energy from your swing and consistent spin with your mid and short irons. In our experience, the TaylorMade V3 Speed Golf Ball performed very well on approaches inside 100 yards. The low ball flight makes them easier to work from that distance.

We end our list with a little something for the ladies. The TaylorMade Women’s Kalea Golf Balls have a low compression rating so they feel soft with pretty much every club in your bag. While there is a matte finish option, we wouldn’t recommend it as it makes these balls inconsistent in wet conditions.

These are also great balls for players with a smooth swing tempo. Some of our more aggressive swingers were having a bit of trouble with consistent flight trajectory; but that wasn’t a problem at all for our testers with a smoother swing style.

And for the price you can’t really go wrong. At most retailers you can expect to pay just $20 for a dozen.
