Ray Cook Gyro Men’s Complete Golf Set Review

Ray Cook Gyro Men’s Complete Golf Set1

“For those wanting to get out onto the links without breaking the bank, the Ray Cook Gyro complete men’s golf club set may offer for you.”

Ray Cook may not be a household name; but you don’t always have to look to the top brands to get started with the game of golf.

The Ray Cook Gyro golf club set is a perfect example of that.

The Ray Cook Gyro clubs are easy to hit and durable.

While not the clubs you will be using if you stick with the game long-term, they will help new players feel confident and most importantly, learn the game the way it should be played.

First Impressions

“The first thing we noticed about the Ray Cook Gyro set was that most of the clubs were oversized.”

If this is your first time shopping for golf clubs, oversized is good. It means that the club heads are easier to hit with.

Big drivers and woods will also help you gain a bit of distance.

The Ray Cook Gyro set comes with every club a beginner will need to learn the game from tee to pin.

We like the fact that it comes with a hybrid and that the irons are cavity back irons. It’s obvious that what the designers of these clubs were going for was forgiveness.

The Ray Cook Gyro Set

Ray Cook Gyro Men’s Complete Golf Set

Driver

“The Gyro set comes with a hefty 460cc driver outfitted with a titanium body and graphite shaft in 10.5°”

The mostly titanium construction of the Gyro driver makes it exceptionally light and strong.

While most of our testers noted a bit too much feedback and vibration, they also conceded that the driver was lightweight and wieldy in the hands.

Fairway Woods

“The set comes with a #3 fairway wood that is also outfitted with a graphite shaft.”

The 3-wood in this set is a viable play off the tee or the deck. While the turf interaction leaves a lot to be desired, the graphite shaft is light and allows for more flex and forgiveness.

Hybrids

“Next up is a 5-hybrid that seamlessly fills the gap between the long fairway wood and the #6 iron.”

There are no special features with this club but it gets the job done. The 5-hybrid in the Gyro set provides a great deal of lateral forgiveness.

So whether you hit near the toe or the heel, you won’t see a dramatic drop-off in ball speed or accuracy. The 5-hybrid comes with a steel shaft.

Irons

“The best thing about the irons in this set is that they are large and easy to use even if you are completely new to golf.”

The Gyro irons are also cavity back irons with a decent amount of perimeter weighting.

In reality, the perimeter weighting is just mass that is moved out towards the heel and the toe but nonetheless, it makes for a forgiving effect.

The Gyro irons feature steel shafts and are marked by exceptionally large sweet spots.

Wedges

“The Ray Cook Gyro set comes with a pitching wedge that is easy to manage.”

However, don’t expect a lot of spin control from this club. While the Gyro PW naturally gives good apex height, you get virtually no feel or control off the face grooves.

In other words, you may see your ball roll well past the pin when using this wedge.

Putter

“The putter in this set actually felt quite nice.”

It is evenly balanced with toe/heel weighting. The non-glare matte black finish also creates a stark contrast with the ball which makes it easier to line up your shot.

There is a bit of a lag in terms of forward roll; but there is enough control and balance to get new players used to putting with accuracy.

Set Composition

“The driver and 3-wood are the only clubs in this set that come with graphite shafts. The hybrid, irons, wedges and putter all have steel shafts.”

The set is completed with a lightweight stand bag (rain hood included) and a head cover for the driver, 3-wood and hybrid.

Final Assessment

Ray Cook Gyro Men’s Complete Golf Set

“The Ray Cook Gyro golf club set for men is a perfect fit for complete beginners to the game.”

While they may lack short-game control, that is only to be expected in beginner-grade clubs. We like the fact that the irons are easy to hit because irons are notoriously difficult for new golfers.

You may have to replace certain clubs in this set as you get better; but it’s a great base set to begin with.
