Whenever Titleist or PING bring out a new driver you can expect big things.

Unlike other manufacturers that bring out a driver once a year, these guys only bring out a driver once every two years.

This means they have enough time to make significant changes to the previous models.

We were obviously very excited to test both of these drivers and put them against their previous models. Let’s dive into some details below.

TITLEIST TSR2 OVERVIEW

The Titleist TSR2 Driver is for higher handicap golfers.

Titleist have moved the majority of the weight to the back of the head, when moving the CG back and low it creates forgiveness, which is needed for your mid to high handicap golfer.

The sound and feel of the TSR2 driver is great, it is a much duller sound compared to the previous years models, and the feel off the face is soft.

With loads of tech packed into the head like the Multi-Plateau VFT face and improved aerodynamics, you can expect a lot more distance and forgiveness.

Overall the TSR2 driver is a far better model than its predecessors.

PING G430 MAX DRIVER OVERVIEW

The PING G430 Max is a superior model over the G425 Max.

It sounds better, feels better and is more forgiving. The G430 is PING’s most forgiving model they have ever made.

There is still that classic PING look when you look down at the driver, and the matte finish makes it look great.

From the get go we could see the balls spinning a lot less than the G425 model, it took us a while to get the right shaft and loft combination, but when we did, oh my word was it good.

We are predicting this could be the best driver for 2023.

OVERVIEW CONCLUSION

Both drivers are incredible, and on their day can work for anyone, however we do feel like the PING G430 has the upper hand, and could potentially be the most popular driver for 2023.

What PING missed in its previous models was a low spin element. In the G430 driver it is more forgiving than the previous model plus it spins a hell of a lot less, making it an absolute beast.

TITLEIST TSR2 KEY TECHNOLOGY

The TRS family may seem plain and simple, but it has some great technology inside to help with ball speed, forgiveness, sound, feel and distance.

Let’s take a closer look at that technology.

Titleist have improved on the aerodynamics of their TSR drivers, creating more speed and distance.

They’ve redesigned the toe shape to improve face-angle alignment at address, providing better ball flight.

The new Multi-Plateau VFT construction design builds the face layer by layer, creating a consistent CT across the entire hitting surface.

This produces amazing forgiveness and ball speed on every strike, no matter where on the face you hit it.

Placing the CG lower and more forward on the TSR2 has increased ball speed while improving launch and spin.

The TSR2 driver comes with two categories for shaft options. The standard shafts cost no extra money while the premium shafts have an upcharge.

PING G430 MAX KEY TECHNOLOGY

The PING G430 Max driver is really something else, let’s dive into some of the technologies below.

The 25g tungsten sliding weight gives you maximum adjustability, allowing you to help straighten out your shot shape. Spinsistency technology is again present in this model, helping you generate consistent spin.

The PING G430 driver still has a titanium crown, but it has a higher MOI as the engineers moved more weight to the back of the head.

The internal ribs behind the face have enhanced the sound and feel tremendously.

The G430 Max still has a T9S+ Forged Face, but the VFT Face (Variable Face Thickness) has been made thinner than that of the G425, which will increase ball speeds.

WHO SHOULD BUY THE TITLEIST TSR2 DRIVERS

Titleist drivers still have that classic look to them, which does appeal to a lot of golfers.

You should consider buying the TSR2 driver if you are a Titleist fanatic or looking for something more traditional.

The TSR2 driver is ideal for mid to high handicap golfers as it is packed for distance and forgiveness.

Just make sure you go for a fitting when buying the new PING G430 drivers, your previous setup might change when moving to this driver, the spin characteristics are much different, meaning you may have to change loft and shaft to get the best out of the driver.
