Titleist released the new TSR2 at the end of 2022 to deliver low spin, high launch, and improved accuracy and distance.

In this review, I analyze its predecessor and determine which is better between the Titleist TSi2 vs TS2 drivers.

Plus, after reviewing these big sticks, you will have a clearer idea of whether there is value in acquiring the new TSR2.

An Overview OF Both Drivers

The Tsi2 vs TS2 drivers are older version clubs from Titleist built to deliver optimal speed, launch, and distance for high handicappers.

The TS2 was the first to hit shelves in 2018 and was followed 3 years later by the Tsi2 driver.

These adjustable drivers offer advanced forgiveness, straighter ball flight, and consistent length off the tee. In addition, they carry a low and deep center of gravity (CG) to generate a high-flying shot.

TITLEIST TSI2 KEY FEATURES

Titleist packed the 460cc TSi2 driver with an explosive ATI 425 Aerospace Titanium clubface, SureFit hosel, and Multi-Dimensional stability.

In addition, it contains low and deep CG to produce an elevated tee shot.

TITLEIST TS2 KEY FEATURES

The predecessor to the TSi2 carries a SureFit adjustable hosel and a Variable Face Thickness, which reduces spin and accelerates speed.

However, I felt the older driver delivered less forgiveness on off-center hits than the TSi2.

SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES

The TSi2 and TS2 drivers sport a 460 cc clubhead to offer a maximum surface area for the average golfer to strike.

In addition, both big sticks carry a SureFit hosel and offer a variety of stock shafts and loft options.

While these golf clubs mainly offer similar lofts, there are some marginal differences. The TS2 has more options spanning from an 8.5-degree low loft to an 11.5-degree weak loft.

WHO IS EACH DRIVER FOR?

The performance of the Titleist TSi2 and TS2 reveals that their launch, forgiveness, distance, and speed are best suited to mid and high-handicap golfers.

Moreover, considering their age, they offer golfers on a tight budget exceptional value for money.

PERFORMANCE DISTANCE & FEEL COMPARISON

After testing both drivers, I found that one was superior to the other in almost all departments.

The TSi2 produced marginally higher clubhead and ball speed before obliterating its opponent in length.

The TSi2 flew an average of 223 yards before rolling an additional 27 yards for an average total distance of 250 yards.

However, these results were in stark contrast to the older TS2 driver, which carried 211 yards and rolled 32 yards to finish with an aggregate of 243 yards. 

ACCURACY & CONSISTENCY COMPARISON

My launch, forgiveness, and distance consistency were far superior with the TSi2 driver.

However, when I assessed my accuracy, I noticed that I was more consistent with the Titleist TS2, which produced a better dispersion chart, even on heel and toe mishits.

PRICE COMPARISON

The TS2 driver is considered a dinosaur as far as golf equipment goes, and also incredibly challenging to find brand new.

However, you can come across pre-owned models which fetch between $100 to $200.

Conversely, the younger TSi2 design is relatively pricey, fetching $499,  only $100 off the newer TSR2.

• Consistent launch
• Forgiving
• Produces a higher apex for an effortless launch

Cons:

• Expensive for an older-model driver
• Produces less roll than the TS2

FINAL ASSESSMENT

Overall the Titleist TSi2 vs TS2 drivers are ideal for moderate to slow swing speed high handicappers.

They offer forgiveness, spin low and accelerate ball speed to launch consistently. While the older TS2 proved more accurate on the shot dispersion chart, the TSi2 was superior overall.

Although the TSi2 is more affordable than the new and improved TSR2, it doesn’t compare to the affordability of the TS2.

However, the older TS2 model is difficult to find brand new, and you are better off settling for the 2021 TSi2.

The Titleist TSi2 delivered greater distance, a raised apex, and faster clubhead and ball speed.
