If I had mentioned the names Titleist or Ping twenty years ago, you would have thought of golf balls and putters. However, fast forward a couple of decades and like their competitors, both companies manufacture a range of golf equipment.

With that in mind, the question I am asking is how good are the irons from both companies. To answer this, I am going to review the Titleist T400 irons vs G710 irons from Ping.

Both Club Sets Overview

 

Titleist’s T400 irons are the latest addition to the T family, and according to the company. These are their longest and most forgiving irons in their stable and are set with the strongest lofts of any T range iron.

Over at Ping, they created the G710 irons, which is meant to be their longest and most forgiving irons set.

Golfalot’s Sophie Walker found that these irons continued the trend of the G700’s hollow head design. Instead of a forgiving iron that is chunky and oversized. This set looks like an amplified forged iron setup.

Irons Loft Comparison Table

The T400 irons set starts with a 5-iron that is set at 20 degrees of loft. This club has the same degree of loft as the Ping G710 4-iron. The lofts on the T400’s are significantly stronger than their G710 counterparts and generally play one club more than the number suggests.

 

When we get down to the short irons and wedges. It is worth noting that the T400 pitching wedge is one degree stronger than the 9-iron in the G710 set.

What Options Do You Get With The Sets – Shafts And Flex

Titleist T400

There are two stock shaft brands available to you if you are considering the T400’s. They are the True Temper AMT Red and Mitsubishi Fubuki Mv 50/45.

The True Temper shafts are only available in regular flex and suit the moderate to fast swinging player.

Conversely, The Mitsubishi shafts were designed for the slow to moderate swinger. As they come in ladies, senior and regular flex.

 

Ping G710 Irons

The G710 irons only offer one stock shaft and flex option, The Alta Distanza, which comes in a soft regular flex option.

This is between a senior and regular flex shaft and is better suited to a slower swinging golfer.

Who Are Each Set For – What Makes Each One Better?

Former Ladies European Tour Pro Sophie Walker was surprised to find that the T400 best suited slow-swinging golfers and those who struggle with consistency on the distance front.

 

Distance Comparison

Rick Hatfield from The Golfers Warehouse tested the 7-irons of both sets to see how they compared on the distance front. He found that the T400 delivered 8 yards more carry than the Ping equivalent.

However, it is vital to note that the T400 7-iron is 3.5 degrees, then the G710’s, effectively giving you a 6-iron loft instead of a 7-iron.

Forgiveness

The level of forgiveness of both sets is exceptional, and it is no wonder why both Ping and Titleist claim that the G710 and the T400 are their longest and most forgiving irons.

Therefore, they are evenly matched in terms of forgiveness.

 

How Do They Compare On Price?

The Ping G710 irons will run you $40 -$60 less per iron, depending on whether you opt for steel or graphite shaft options.

Graphite shaft options are marginally more than their steel counterparts.
