TaylorMade SIM2 Vs TaylorMade M2 Driver Comparison Overview

TaylorMade is arguably the best metalwood brand on the market. Their innovation keeps them a step above the rest. That with their incredibly good looking product and marketing, keep them pushing boundaries and keep consumers wanting more.

TaylorMade made a bold statement when they brought out the M2 range. With new materials and new look, they made the M2 range better than anything on the market.

Since then, they have continued to develop and redefine their products each year, which has led them to the SIM2. Some might say it is the ultimate driver, we will let you decide for yourself.

TaylorMade SIM2 Driver Overview

The SIM2 driver takes the metalwood to a whole new level, only the face is made from titanium, which all manufactures use. The rest of the driver is made up of carbon fibre and aluminium.

This is used to save weight and position it in places that are beneficial to make the driver have more ball speed and forgiveness.

The Inertia Generator is designed to make the driver aerodynamically more efficient. The weight that is positioned at the back is so far back and down, that if the weight was positioned perpendicular to the face it would cause drag, so they angled the weight to help air flow over it more efficiently.

TwistFace is a very important piece to the SIM2, it was first introduced in the M4 series. Essentially they twisted the face on the heel and toe area to assist with miss hits. It doesn’t guarantee you to hit it straight, but we sure did see a massive difference when we miss hit shots.

SpeedPocket has been a staple in TaylorMade metalwoods and irons for many years. The SpeedPocket provides some much needed ball speed when you strike the ball low on the face.

The bottom of the club is quite rigid, so having the SpeedPocket allows for some flex in the face when struck low, helping to maintain ball speed.

TaylorMade M2 Driver Overview

Like we mentioned before the M2 changed the game in terms of drivers. The look, sound, feel and performance was incredible when it was launched. The SIM2 still has many features from the M2, making the M2 still a great driver.

The carbon crown allows TaylorMade to move the weight low down in the head making it more forgiving. The bottom of the driver has a special geocustic design providing an unbelievable sound and feel.

The M2 also has the SpeedPocket technology providing much needed ball speed on low struck shots.

The adjustable sleeve provides you with the ability to manipulate the face and lie angle of the club to really help you get dialed in.

The forgiveness and extra ball speed was clear from the get go. The sound was also incredible.

Taylormade M2 First Impressions

The easiness to hit is what really stood out for us. The miss hits went much straighter than our own drivers.

The lightness of the driver was also something that we had never felt. We instantly gained some clubhead speed, which subsequently made the ball go further. For any senior golfer out there this is a major bonus.

After playing with the loft sleeve for a bit, we found the performance got even better. If you have the chance to get fitted it will benefit your game, if you can’t, just speaking to your local pro for some advice will help.

The look and sound was another highlight, it just looks amazing at address position.

Sim 2 Driver – First Impressions

This thing is a rocket! The ball just seems like it comes off the face faster than any previous model. Like the M2 it feels light, which allows you to generate more clubhead speed.

The control is like no other, every shot feels like it comes out of the middle of the face, and the miss hits are extremely good.

The SIM2 comes in 3 versions, we tested all three. The one we liked the best was the SIM2 Max version. This gave us the best launch and spin numbers, which resulted in the best dispersion and distance.

The other two are the SIM2 and SIM2 Max D Type. The SIM2 driver being the lower launching and spinning driver, generally for the better player, as their swing speed will be high.

The D Type is great if you slice the ball, we could see a big difference in the shape of our shots, which tended to go left.

All in all, the looks, Inertia Generator, Forged Ring, corbon crown and sole, TwistFace and SpeedPocket definitely make this one of our favorite drivers on the market at the moment.
