SRIXON ZX5 MK2 IRONS OVERVIEW

SRX ZX5 MkII

The ZX5 MK2 Iron set is Srixon’s new release in 2023, set to hit shelves in March this year.

The ZX 5 combines the buttery soft feel of a forged iron, with rapid ball speed and forgiveness. As a result, it falls under the players distance category.

While the long irons explode the ball off the clubface and launch it mid to high, the short irons and pitching wedge maximize spin.

Finally, they proved effective in the rough and fairway, thanks to its expertly crafted Tour V.T sole.

MIZUNO JPX923 HOT METAL IRONS OVERVIEW

JPX 923

The Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal Iron set releases in 2023, and is built for mid to high-handicap golfers.

Mizuno constructed these irons after an extensive market research project that recorded over 175,000 golf swings utilizing their Swing DNA system.

It records 40 distinct data points to receive feedback and continuously evolve and improve its golf clubs with deep analysis.

The Hot Metal uses a forging speed cavity to enhance accuracy and increase distance. It is designed for mid to high-handicap golfers.

SRIXON ZX5 MK2 IRONS FIRST IMPRESSIONS

SRX ZX5 MkII-1

The ZX5 MK2 Iron set has made excellent improvements over the previous range.

After testing out these bad boys, I noticed they remodeled the back by removing the weight insert, which gives them that premium iron design and better overall look.

This series balances the game-improvement feel with premium forged iron looks, resulting in a wonderful-looking and excellent-performing iron set.

There is a slight offset to these irons with a broader sole and longer overall length than the ZX7s, which enhances your forgiveness factor as you lose out somewhat on workability.

SRIXON ZX5 IRONS KEY TECHNOLOGY

Mainframe: Srixon utilized their second-generation mainframe technology, a variable thickness pattern of unique channels, cavities, and grooves.

They milled this combination to the back of the club head to maximize the flexibility at impact to accelerate ball speed.

Furthermore, this mainframe repositions the weight closer to the toe for extra forgiveness and consistency.

Pureframe: Srixon thickened the clubface by 80%, using a 1020 Carbon Steel Plate positioned on common impact zones.

This feature enhances feel at contact to assist your confidence and ball-striking abilities.

Tour V.T. Sole: The expertly crafted Tour V.T sole aids the golfer’s turf interaction and promotes swift glide through fairway grass, the rough, and the sand.

In addition, the Tour V.T. Sole Contains a lower bounce on the back edge for enhanced workability and a higher bounce factor on the front edge.

This prevents chunking and digging into the earth, instead promoting clean contact from any lie.

Progressive Groove Design: The Srixon team has taken groove design to a different level as they feature wider grooves in the low irons (3-7) for smoother, low spinning shots, which maximize distance.

Conversely, the short irons (8-AW) contain deeper laser-milled grooves designed closer together for improved spin and turf friction.

MIZUNO JPX923 HOT METAL IRONS FIRST IMPRESSIONS

JPX 923-1

At first glance, I noticed that this Iron set has a broader sole and weaker loft as shown in the specs table below for a game-improvement Iron set.

Although Mizuno has a reputation for forged Iron sets for more serious players, they break the tradition here to offer a more forgiving and easy-hitting Iron set.

After thorough testing and market research, I found out that this iron set performs pretty much as advertised, the speed with a higher level of forgiveness.

I appreciated the Nickel Chromoly feature that has reduced the face by 8%. The Hot Metal material felt very sturdy, especially on mishits.

MIZUNO JPX 923 HOT METAL IRONS KEY TECHNOLOGY

New V-Chassis: Mizunos refined its V-chassis technology that generates an improved and solid vibration pattern to drown mishits.

Furthermore, they enhanced the thinnest part of the sole, constructing it 18% wider to expand the sweet spot and high energy area for a powerful and forgiving strike.

HOT 4355 Nikol Chromoly: Touted as the secret ingredient to these Irons, this unique metal is apparently 35% stronger than previous JPX Irons.

This allowed Mizunos Hiroshima engineers to design an 8% thinner HOT clubface for exceptional ball speeds.

Cup Face Construction: Mizuno utilizes a seamless cup face construction that generates a deep Center of gravity.

This feature enhances the high launch profile and assists golfers with a more controllable flight path.

WHO ARE THE SRIXON ZX5 MK2 IRONS FOR?

According to their website, the Srixon ZX5 MK2 Iron set is best suited to low to mid-handicap golfers due to its mid-to-high forgiveness and workability profiles.

However, I would say that it matches mid-handicappers, because of its broad sole and longer blade.

This renders it very forgiving, but moderately workable, a crucial factor for better skilled players. Plus, superior golfers will no doubt welcome the exceptional spin control.

I felt that the longer irons offered less control over distance and forgiveness, a strong reason for putting these irons in the mid-handicap category.
