Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray Complete Golf Set Review

Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray Complete Golf Set1

“A quality set of women’s golf clubs can be hard to find. But the Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray set may be a good fit for you if you are just beginning to learn the game.”

First and foremost, the Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray golf club set is designed for beginner players. There are no fancy bells and whistles here.

However, we were quite surprised at how thoughtfully these budget clubs were designed.

In a women’s set of golf clubs, you are mainly looking for lightweight design, forgiveness and consistency.

Will the Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray golf club set deliver on all fronts? Let’s find out.

First Impressions

“When we first received the Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray, we were surprised at the amount of detail that went into the clubs.”

These aren’t your ordinary beginners set of women’s clubs.

While they look pretty standard in the bag, once you start swinging with them you can feel the attention to detail that went into their engineering.

Our testers noticed a good amount of face flex coming from the woods in this set.

They also noticed that the sweet spots of the irons have been expanded to achieve a high degree of forgiveness.

The Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray Set

Driver

“A 460cc driver with a remarkably large footprint kicks off the set.”

This driver looks nice and chunky at address. And even as the footprint is large, it isn’t too heavy.

The Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray driver comes with a lightweight graphite shaft and a thinned out crown to help keep the weight nice and low. As a result of the low CG, you get good launch from this driver.

Fairways

“The fairway wood also features a lightweight graphite shaft.”

The graphite shaft not only helps to keep overall weight down; it also increases flex which is something you want when you are hitting off the deck.

More flex means more ball speed which in turn, means more distance.

Hybrids

“The hybrid in this set feels forgiving off the deck.”

But like the Ray Cook Gyro hybrid for men, the Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray hybrid suffers from poor turf interaction.

It has a graphite shaft which is nice. It is also an inherently forgiving club thanks to the squat design of the head.

Irons

“The Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray set comes with irons 6-9.”

It would have been nice to see one more hybrid to replace the 6-iron in this set but we digress.

The Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray irons feature deep undercut soles which will help you get the ball in the air and over hazards. Bonus: the irons come outfitted with graphite shafts!

Wedges

“The pitching wedge in this set is designed to promote easy, high launch.”

What we liked most about the PW is that it was a seamless transition from the 9-iron. Good gapping, tight dispersion and high launch is what you get from this PW.

It also features a deep undercut which is ideal for when you need to stick fast greens.

Putter

“The 33” putter features a soft face insert that promotes forward roll and enhances feel.”

The Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray set comes with a blade-style, center-shafted putter. Overall, we were quite impressed with the performance of this bargain putter.

Forward roll begins almost immediately and the face insert allows for a surprisingly high degree of feel.

Set Composition

“The driver, fairway wood, hybrid and even the irons in the Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray set come with graphite shafts.”

Graphite-shafted irons are great for women who have just started playing golf because they allow for maximum distance – even if accuracy is sacrificed.

The Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray set also comes with a cart bag with a 9.5” padded top divider and 6 zippered pockets. The hybrid, fairway wood and driver also come with headcovers.

Final Assessment

Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray Complete Golf Set

“So did the Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray tick all the boxes?”

Nearly. While you get exceptionally lightweight clubs that really deliver in terms of forgiveness, you don’t get the consistency one would hope for in a set of women’s golf clubs.

The graphite-shafted irons, which ironically helps tick the box of lightweightedness, also detracts from consistency.

2 out of three ain’t bad though and at just around $400 for the lot, we would say the Ray Cook Ladies Silver Ray set is still a good choice for beginners.
