RAM Accubar Men’s Golf Club Set Review

RAM Accubar

There is a common perception regarding the game of golf. Namely, that it’s an expensive game to get into.

Indeed, golf clubs can be very expensive but there is good news for anyone looking to pick up the game for the first time.

There are a host of upstart golf club manufacturing companies who not only sell affordable golf clubs; but put an emphasis on making clubs that are easier for beginners and high handicappers to use.

Of course, there are always pitfalls with these types of entry-level clubs. Not all of them will be built well and so some may be bad investments at the end of the day.

To help you sort  through your options and score a quality set of clubs, we went out and tested one such entry-level golf club set.

It’s called the RAM Accubar men’s golf club set. This is a complete set and includes a total of 9 clubs. But is the RAM Accubar golf club set worth your time and money? We tested it to answer that very question.

Playing the RAM Accubar Golf Club Set

RAM Accubar3

Our testers took the RAM Accubar golf club set for two full rounds at our local course to see what, if anything, it offered players.

Pretty much immediately, our testers were able to tell that this is a set designed for beginners and high handicappers.

Everything from the large, forgiving driver to the cavity back irons with a deep undercut was designed to improve forgiveness and ease-of-use for new players.

While it doesn’t have much value for mid to low handicappers, it was clear after our testing that it is a very viable set for beginners and high handicappers.

Driver

The RAM Accubar driver has a volume of 460cc’s which is the maximum allowable for tournament play.

At address, it looks big and forgiving. The sweet spot is massive and it’s set to 10.5 degrees so you get a controlled loft that doesn’t balloon out of control.

Woods

The RAM Accubar set only comes with one fairway wood. It’s a #3 wood set to 15 degrees.

While we were particularly thrilled with the sound it produced, it had a deep face profile which helped increase forgiveness on low-face shots by a significant margin.

Hybrid

You get a single #4 hybrid in the RAM Accubar golf club set which performs very well on the deck or if you find yourself in some cabbage.

It has a low face profile and lateral forgiveness is right on par with some other more expensive hybrids.

Irons

You get irons 6-9 in the RAM Accubar golf club set. They are cavity back irons with a nice, thick undercut.

Our testers really liked the high launch they were getting from these irons which made them more than viable for long approaches. These are stainless steel irons that have a clean look both in the bag and at address.

Wedges

You only get a pitching wedge in the RAM Accubar set which is a bit of a bummer; but at least it performs very well. Our testers found that the distance made it playable from longer approaches but that the spin control was nearly minimal.

Putter

Last but not least, the RAM Accubar set comes with a mallet-style putter.

We really like mallet-style putters for high handicappers because it promotes good balance and stability. The feel isn’t much to write home about; but it is consistent and forgiving all across the face.

Club Composition

You can get the entire RAM Accubar golf club set with graphite shafts or a combination of graphite woods and steel irons.

You can also get the entire set in standard length or +/- an inch from standard.

Alternatives to the RAM Accubar Golf Club Set

  • RAM Golf EZ3 Men’s Golf Club Set – The RAM Golf EZ3 golf club set also emphasizes lightweight design and the hybrid, much like the hybrid in the RAM Accubar set, performs well from a variety of lies. The irons are very forgiving and you get an additional sand wedge in this set.
  • Wilson Profile Platinum Complete Golf Club Set – This set includes a driver5-wood, 5-hybrid, irons 6-9, sand wedge and a putter. A bit more expensive than the RAM Accubar, the Wilson Profile Platinum golf club set has a premium look with PVD black finishes for all the woods. The pitching wedge is also extremely workable from a variety of lies.
  • Callaway Edge Golf Club Set – The Callaway Edge clubs are forgiving and provide great all-around performance. The irons are perimeter weighted to preserve ball speed on errant strikes. The 3-wood is lightweight and stable thanks to a titanium head design. The irons and wedges also have aggressive groove design to promote spin control near the pin.

Final Assessment

RAM Accubar2

The bottom line is that beginners really don’t need expensive clubs that are packed with features that are of no use to them.

So the RAM Accubar complete golf club set is a solid choice if you are just starting to play.

Of course, the clubs in this set probably won’t be serviceable to you once you start to get better. But you may be able to keep a few of the irons or even the driver in your bag after you break 100.

The sound, feel and composition of these clubs are nothing special; but they have it where it counts for beginners. They are forgiving and will make it easier for you to learn the basic nuances of the game.

Overall, they are a solid choice for beginners at a price that can’t be argued with.
