Ping G430 Vs Ping G410 Driver Review & Specs 2023

“You really can’t go wrong with a Ping driver – even if it is a few years old.”

But with the advent of the new Ping G430 series of drivers, we were itching to see just how they compare to an established driver line like the G410 driver.

Naturally, we got our hands on the new Ping G430 driver and dusted off our Ping G410 driver and took to the range. As you can imagine from two drivers that were released just 5 years apart from each other, there are some similar features and some unique features. We help you break down the similarities, differences and performance merits of both drivers in the following review.

Introduction to the Ping G430 and Ping G410 Drivers

“As you would expect from Ping, each series of drivers comes in different flavors.”

For the Ping G410, you get a G410 Plus and G410 SFT option. The Ping G410 SFT driver features a movable weight that helps you shape your shot for straighter flight. For this review though, we will be focusing on the Ping G410 Plus driver.

The new Ping G430 driver comes in three varieties: the G430 Max, G430 LST and the G430 SFT. The G430 LST is the only one to have a 440cc head and carbonfly wrap so it would be better for players with faster swing speeds. The Max and SFt versions both have 460cc heads. All three models have movable tungsten weights. The Max has the biggest weight at 25 grams, and both the SFT and LST versions have 22 gram weights.

For this specific review though, we will be focusing on the Ping G430 Max as it is the most similar to the Ping G410 Plus driver. Both the Ping G430 and Ping G410 drivers are game improvement drivers and they both have adjustable weights.

What Shaft Options Do You Get With Each Driver?

Ping G430

“As you would expect from Ping, you get a lot of custom shaft options.”

For instance, you can choose from a Ping Alta Cb Black 55 graphite shaft in soft regular, regular, and stiff flex. You can also opt for Ping Tour 2.0 and HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX shafts in flex ranging from regular to extra stiff.

Ping G410

“You can still get the G410 driver straight from the manufacturer in a variety of shaft options.”

These include a Ping Alta CB 55 Red shaft in soft regular, regular, stiff and extra stiff flex. They also offer Ping Tour shafts, a Project X EvenFlow 75 shaft, a Mitsubishi Tensei CK Orange 60 shaft and a Ping Alta Distanza shaft.

Who is Best Suited to Each Driver?

“In truth, both drivers performed similarly in our test sessions.”

There are two rather significant differences though. The Ping G430 has a larger 460cc head and a shallower face profile. This makes it the more forgiving driver. The Ping G410 is a 455cc driver so it would be better for more skilled players who like to work the ball off the tee.

Distance Comparison

“For most of our testers, the Ping G430 was the longer driver.”

The Ping G430 yielded an average distance of 239.7 yards for our testers after three swings. The Ping G410 was putting out an average of 234.9 yards for our testers. However, a few of our faster swing speed testers broke 245 yards with the Ping G410.

Forgiveness

“The Ping G430 was definitely the more forgiving driver.”

In addition to a blogger head and shallower face profile that doesn’t punish you harshly on lateral mis-hits, the Ping G430 has variable face thickness which promotes forgiveness across nearly the entire face.

How Do They Compare On Price?

The Ping G430 will run you close to $600 while the Ping G410 sells for closer to $300 at most retailers.

Which Driver Do We Recommend?

“If you’re looking for better overall forgiveness, the Ping G430 is the better driver.”

It will do more to increase the accuracy of high handicap players. But if you have a faster swing speed, you might like the Ping G410 more.

Conclusion on Ping G430 Vs Ping G410 Drivers

“Ping has stepped up their game in 2023.”

The Ping G430 is clearly the superior game improvement driver as it is more forgiving and makes it easier for high handicappers to break the 230 yard threshold. The Ping G410 is certainly more workable; but the Ping G430 is the better GI driver overall.
