The Ping G425 Driver Family

 

The G425 line-up is made of three drivers, the LST (low spinning head), the Max (most forgiving) and the SFT (draw-bias).

In this line-up, every golfer will be able to find something that will reduce any issue you’re having from too much spin to needing a little extra help with off-centre hits.

 

How Does The G425 Compare To The G410?

 

It has to be said that the G425 and the G410 are very similar clubs.

The G410 has a slightly larger head size at 450cc whereas the G425 is 445cc. This smaller head has helped to increase the forgiveness of the club.

Aesthetically they are similar and the G425 is an iterative improvement that is slightly better in almost every way which is not always the case with the new versions of clubs.

How Does The RadSpeed Compare To The SpeedZone?

Again, these are quite similar clubs on the surface of things and they both have the incredible milled Infinity face insert.

The Cobra SpeedZone was a real advancement and the RadSpeed builds on that great heritage.

They both have the same sized head, like the Pings this is an iteration.

Who Are These Clubs Best For?

These clubs are excellent and it really is hard to choose between them.

On the face of it, the Ping has more shaft options which will be better for better golfers who want more nuance in their club set-up.

The RadSpeed is an ultra-low spin club which will benefit those who struggle with too much spin.

 

How Do They Compare On Performance, Distance And Feel?

To me, the Ping just edges it on these three fronts. It is just so astoundingly forgiving, it goes so far and feels great.

I find that the RadSpeed just doesn’t quite spin enough and it can be really hard to get the ball in the air unless you can create a lot of clubhead speed.

 

How Do They Compare On Price?

The Ping is a good price, especially compared to some on the market.

However, the Cobra is far and away the best value new driver on the market.

It is around $100 cheaper than a driver that is already good value.

Callaway Epic Speed

   

The new Callaway Epic Speed driver looks incredible.

With FlashFace and Jailbreak technologies in their face, this is truly an advanced club.

My personal opinion is that it feels overly hard when you hit the ball and the feedback just isn’t there, I prefer the face of both the Ping and the Cobra here.

TaylorMade SIM 2

The SIM 2 is an iteration on the impressive SIM.

There is no doubt that this is a fantastic driver and will be great for many golfers.

I don’t like the design of it, I think it looks a little garish, however, there is no doubting its performance.

Titleist TSi3

I think that the TSi3 is far and away the best driver on the market in 2021.

It looks fantastic and performs even better.

It is leading the PGA Tour week on week as the most used driver and most of these are from non-contractual players, that says everything.

Which Do We Recommend Overall?

Between the Ping and the Cobra, I would choose the Ping.

There really isn’t much between them, however, it just felt better in my hands and I prefer the understated styling of it.

That’s not to say that the Cobra isn’t a good club because it is exceptional and many will adore it, especially to better price tag.

 

Conclusion

Choosing a new driver is getting harder and harder these days as the main manufacturers keep making such phenomenal kit. This is a nice problem to have but it can still cause a big dilemma. Nothing beats trying the clubs and I recommend you have a hit with all of the clubs mentioned.

The reassuring thing is that all of these drivers are exceptional and with a good custom fitting you will find a set-up that works well for you. Just get out and give them a shot, there will be one in there that just feels electric in your hands and that is the big dog for you this year!
