Career Wins

Before embarking on her professional golfing career, Nanna ended her amateur track in 2014 as the best European player on the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

That same year, she was victorious at the Lalla Aicha Tour School Final Qualifying, earning her Ladies European Tour membership for the 2015 season.

Since then, Nanna’s game has gone from strength to strength.

In 2017, she was a three-time winner of the Symetra Tour–now known as the Epson Tour–qualifying for an invitation to the US LPGA Tour.

Some highlights of Nanna’s pro golf career include the following:

  • 2020: tied for ninth position at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo where she represented Denmark.
  • 2021: represented Denmark at the Solheim Cup.
  • 2022: won the Honda LPGA Thailand.

Career Earnings

Since her rookie appearance on Tour, Nanna has consistently earned a paycheck and her first notable take-home was at the 2019 Indy Women in Tech Championship driven by Group1001, where she pocketed a cool $186,577 and tied for second place.

In 2021, two of her major achievements include the ANA Inspiration that netted Nanna $151,615, and the AIG Women’s Open where she double-bogeyed but still went home with a $219,787 cheque.

March 2022 has been Nanna’s most profitable month to date with three events earning her over $100,000 each:

  • The Chevron Championship: $108,708
  • JTBC Classic presented by Barbasol: $135,995
  • Honda LPGA Thailand: $240,000

What’s In The Bag?

Nanna is not partial to a single brand and uses a variety of clubs in her quest to be the best.

Here is the arsenal that helped her win the 2022 Honda LPGA Thailand Open:

  • Driver: Mavrik Sub Zero Triple Diamond (10.5 degrees)
  • Woods: Callaway Epic Flash (16 degrees)
  • Irons: TaylorMade P770 (3-iron to 5-iron), TaylorMade P760 (6-iron to PW)
  • Wedges: Titleist Vokey SM8 (50, 56 & 60 degrees)
  • Putter: Odyssey Stroke Lab #7
  • Ball: Titleist Pro V1x

Caddie

A caddie is not just a caddie and in Nanna’s case, Nicki Hansen is her caddie, her golf coach, and her partner in life.

Nicki works as a club fitter and a coach at the Boca West Country Club, where he has coached with players like Natacha Host Husted, a Danish national team player.

As Nanna shared on an Instagram post, Nicki has been by her side “through highs and lows”.

To help her through the lows on the course, Nicki keeps lemon wedges wrapped in tin foil for Nanna to bite on whenever her temper and disappointment get the better of her.

This unorthodox–and in her words, disgusting–trick keeps her calm and her redirects her focus on the game.

Spouse

Although they attend their friends’ wedding together, Nanna Koerstz Madsen and her long-time partner, coach, and caddie Nicki Hansen are not married, yet.

However, on 15 February 2021, they announced their engagement in a few Instagram posts.

House

When Nanna is not on tour, she and Nicki reside in Smørum, Denmark, where Nanna’s parents still live.

After Nanna earned her LPGA Tour membership, they rented their 93 square metre Copenhagen apartment as they were moving to the United States.

The fully-furnished apartment offered two terraces, lovely views, and large, bright bedrooms.

Family

Family is everything to Nanna and she is very close to her parents Jens and Pia, as well as her brother Mads who is two years older than she is.

Jens, an electronic technician, and Pia, who works for a pension company, got married on 3 June 1995 and have been together ever since.

Nanna’s brother Mads is completing a PhD in chemistry at the Universit of Copenhagen.

When they were young, Mads told Nanna that he would stop playing golf once her handicap was lower than his. At age 15, she achieved a “1” and Mads stopped playing golf for a year.

Golf runs in the Koerstz Madsen family as Jen plays off a 5-6 handicap and Pia’s best was a 13 in her golfing days.

Then entire family still belongs to Smørum Golf Club which is just a mile away from Nanna’s birthplace.

If Nanna’s winning eagle at the Honda LPGA Thailand is a foreshadowing of things to come, you should definitely follow this young pro golfer on social media.

There are plenty more trophies and accolades to come for the first Danish player to win big on the LPGA Tour.
