MacGregor DCT3000 Golf Clubs Review 2023

MacGregor may not be the most renowned name in golf gear but you would be remiss if you overlooked them completely – especially if you’re in the market for a premium set of beginner’s golf clubs.

Over the decades (some say the company can be traced back as far as 1829) MacGregor has produced some amazing clubs and today, we wanted to highlight one of their complete golf club sets: the Macgregor DCT3000.

Macgregor DCT3000 Overview

“The Macgregor DCT3000 is a set that will add distance to your long game and control to your short game.”

The Macgregor DCT3000 golf club set includes a driver, a 3 wood, a #3 hybrid, a #4 hybrid, irons 5-PW and a putter.

The Macgregor DCT3000 golf club set also includes your choice of a stand bag or a cart bag – and at just around $400, you really can’t go wrong. There are even matching head covers for the woods in this set.

The driver in this set has a 460CC head. This is the maximum allowable size for tournament play. 460CC heads are great for beginners because the bigger head means a larger sweet spot to work with and more distance.

The stainless steel #3 fairway wood is set to 21 degrees of loft so it launches high in the air and stops dead where you need the ball to be.

The irons in this set are surprisingly forgiving – even the 5 iron. We really like that this set includes the longer 5 iron too. It gives new players the chance to start mastering the difficult long irons. The perimeter weighting of these irons makes them forgiving enough for beginners and intermediate players.

The Macgregor DCT3000 set comes with a pitching wedge set to 46 degrees of loft. This wedge has a nice undercut and good offset. This will allow you to launch the ball high in the air while being able to control distance to a precise degree.

The putter has a traditional mallet shape with a face insert that enhances feel at point of impact. The insert also gives you precise control of end-over-end roll.

“Overall, the Macgregor DCT3000 golf club set has everything a beginner needs but won’t appeal much to low handicap players.”

Macgregor DCT3000 – What’s in the Bag?

The Macgregor DCT3000 golf club set includes the following clubs:

Driver, 3 wood, #3 hybrid, #4 hybrid, irons 5-9, pitching wedge, putter, head covers, rubber grips and either a stand or a cart bag.

Club Breakdowns

The clubs in this set strike a good balance between being lightweight and substantial.

In other words, they will feel good in the hands of beginners but provide enough distance to get you over the hump so to speak.

Driver

The Macgregor DCT3000 driver is made from pure titanium.

This is important for two reasons. One, titanium is an exceptionally thin alloy so it doesn’t add to much weight to the club.

Two, it’s highly resilient which, means it flexes to a high degree and increases ball speed.

3 Wood

The #3 fairway wood in the Macgregor DCT3000 golf club set features a shallow face which, is beneficial for beginners who have not yet learned how to shape their shots.

The shallow face covers a multitude of sins (slices, draws, fades etc.) from the deck or the tee.

Hybrids

The Macgregor DCT3000 set also comes with 2 hybrids which, is good for beginners who are struggling with their longer irons.

These hybrids are easy to hit and provide the kind of distance you would expect from 4 and 5 irons.

Irons

You get irons 5-PW in the Macgregor DCT3000 set.

We like the fact that includes the 5 iron because it’s just a good idea in general to start learning the long irons as soon as possible.

The irons are made of 431 stainless steel which, provides good feedback, sound and feel.

Wedge

The pitching wedge in this set is 35.7 inches long so it will be suitable for a wide range of male players.

It creates high-arcing shots that land gingerly on the green and hold their position well.

Putter

The putter feels very well balanced and produces a good amount of forward roll.

It’’s a mallet style putter outfitted with a steel shaft and a high MOI.

Who Is The Macgregor DCT3000 Set For?

It’s apparent from the bare-bones features of this set that it was meant for beginners.

That being said, it has all the basics that beginners need: pronounced offset, high MOI irons, lightweight woods and high-arcing fairway woods and wedges.

The Macgregor DCT3000 comes with either graphite or steel shafts. You can also choose from a stand or a cart bag.

Do We Recommend Buying The Macgregor DCT3000 Golf Club Set?

We like that the Macgregor DCT3000 has plenty of forgiveness and distance to offer. Another great thing about this set is that the irons play surprisingly straight.

Whether you tend to sky the ball or hit it low on the club face, you will find that these irons still produce relatively straight shots.

Our only real gripes are that some of the clubs (#3 hybrid we’re looking at you) seem unnecessary and that this is not a set that will growth with you over time. But do we recommend the Macgregor DCT3000 for beginners? Absolutely.

They are a great price and has all the basic elements important for beginners covered. Check out the Macgregor DCT3000 golf club set today!
