LA Golf Putter Review 2023 – Good For High Handicappers? Vs Alternatives

LA Golf is not a household name…yet. The LA Golf Putter may very well what puts this fledgling company over the top.

After designing shafts for some of golf’s top names, the small LA-based company is seeking to place their stamp on the putter market.

The LA Golf Putter is one of the most unique putters we have ever tested. But is it really worth the price? Take a look at what we found about the LA Golf Putter after testing it.

LA Golf Putter Overview

The LA Golf Putter is an Anser 2 style putter with an oversize head.

It is also worth noting that it goes for about $1,500. The LA Golf Putter is packed with some pretty impressive features and was made using unique design methods.

With the LA Golf Putter, the small company sought to craft a premium putter that would be at home in  the bags of tour pros and scratch players alike.

First Impressions

The first thing that struck us about the LA Golf Putter was the head size. It was clear at first glance that this was an Anser-style putter. But when we took a closer look at it, we could see that it was significantly larger than any Anser-style putter we have ever played.

The LA Golf Putter is about an inch longer than your average Anser-style putter (heel to toe). It’s also wider from face to flange. So right away, mid handicap players may gain some confidence at point of address with this putter.

What Makes it so Good?

For us, what made this putter perform so well was the excellent weight distribution.

Despite the larger than normal head size, the LA Golf Putter maintains an optimal weight distribution for balance and stability at impact.

Part of what makes the weight distribution so even is the head material. The LA Golf Putter head is made of carbon which has a favorable weight to strength ratio. The result is a putter that feels incredibly balanced and preserves stroke energy very well.

How Much Does it Cost? – Why so Expensive?

The LA Golf Putter retails for $1500. This is pretty much triple what you would pay for an average driver. What drives up the cost so much is the premium appointments like the in-house developed LA Golf graphite shaft.

The manufacturing process is also what makes this putter so expensive. LA Golf took a page from SIK’s book and designed the LA Golf Putter with descending loft face technology. The LA Golf Putter also has a premium all-black finish.

LA Golf Putter Key Features

One of the most important features of the LA Golf Putter is the graphite anti-vibration shaft. This shaft helps make for an incredibly smooth stroke and inhibits face twisting to a very high degree – especially for a graphite shaft.

The descending loft face technology is another very important feature. According to launch monitor readouts, the LA Golf Putter produces uniform launch angle even on mis-hits. This feature puts the LA Golf Putter on par with many mallet putters in terms of forgiveness.

And as we mentioned before, the carbon head allows for incredibly even weight distribution even on long putts.

Who Should Carry it?

The LA Golf Putter would probably fit best in the bags of mid to low handicappers. The balde-like look and the incredible weight balance will just look and feel better in the hands of players who can really appreciate such aspects.

However, if you are a high handicapper and don’t mind shelling out $1500 for a putter, you would still be able to get good use out of it. In our testing, we were really blown away at how forgiving the LA Golf Putter was. It provides mallet-like forgiveness in a blade putter

Good for High Handicappers?

Surprisingly yes. Our high handicappers were achieving much better consistency with the LA Golf Putter. They also noted that their mis-hits had much less impact on ball speed with the LA Golf Putter. The only thing that isn’t good for high handicappers is the price tag.

What About Mid to Low Handicappers?

The LA Golf Putter seems to have been built for a wide array of players. And from our testing, we would conclude that it would also be great for mid and low handicappers who demand more control and precision.

However, we did notice that the stainless steel face produced a slight roll delay.

Good for Pros?

LA Golf is already designing shafts for some of the highest-profile players in the game. However, we don’t expect the LA Golf Putter to sweep the tour any time soon.

While we wouldn’t be surprised to see it in the bags of one or two pros, there are simply more accurate putters that pros would gravitate to.

Shaft Options

Unfortunately, LA Golf doesn’t give you options for the shaft. You are limited to a stiff graphite LA Golf shaft. That all being said though, the stock shaft is very impressive and feels great on all kinds of putts.
