Is Top Flite A Good Golf Brand? – Are Their Clubs Good?

You may have come across Top Flite golf clubs at a local sporting goods store or by browsing online.

They are a prominent brand that mostly makes clubs geared towards beginners and high handicappers.

While you aren’t likely to see Top Flite golf clubs in the bags of Tour pros, they certainly do have something to offer everyday players.

If you are shopping for a new set of clubs or some replacement clubs you are probably wondering if Top Flite is a good option.

While every player is different, in the following brand review we will be discussing whether or not Top Flite clubs are any good in a general sense.

First, we’re going to take a look at the history of the company so you can get a better idea of what Top Flite is all about.

Quick Facts

  • Top Flite Golf was once owned by Callaway Golf
  • Today, the company is owned by Dick’s Sporting goods
  • They have a reputation for making clubs for beginners and high handicappers
  • Ben Hogan is a subsidiary of Top Flite

History of Top Flite

The history of Top Flite is tied to the history of Callaway. In 2003, Top Flite golf was purchased by Callaway. The company was experiencing some financial difficulties as it’s competition with Adidas was taking a toll.

In 2003, Top Flite filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy and was purchased by Callaway soon after. However, in 2012, Callaway CEO Oliver Gordon Brewer III decided to sell Top Flite because their products were not selling very well.

A buyer emerged in Dick’s Sporting Goods who took control of the company and began selling their clubs in-store and online. In 2022, Top Flite has experienced a sort of resurgence. The COVID pandemic saw many new players pick up the game of golf.

As a result, demand for entry-level golf clubs spiked sharply. Top Flite has emerged as a brand catering to these new players and is perhaps now more popular than ever before.

What Are They Known For?

The Top Flite brand is not one that you will hear talked about by pros. The brand is known more for their entry-level clubs.

Much of the technology that goes into their clubs is geared toward producing more forgiveness and distance.

For instance, high MOI is a staple in many of their clubs as high MOI is a demand among high handicap players.

Still, they use some of the same kinds of forgiveness technology and features that better-known brands like Taylormade and Callaway use.

Top Flite is also known for making affordable clubs which is another reason why they are popular among casual and beginner players.
