Golfbuddy Voice GPS Device Review
Golfbuddy has established itself as one of the leading golf accessory manufacturers. It’s hard to believe that they emerged back in 2003 as their impressive list of products and firm place on the market makes it seem like they have been around forever.
Based in Santa Fe Springs, California Golfbuddy have done a lot of work and come a long way in terms of the technical sophistication of their devices. In fact they even have a data management center in South Korea which helps them produce accurate GPS devices.
The specific Golfbuddy device we are talking about today is the Golfbuddy Voice GPS. Of course, the first thing you notice about this device is that it actually talks to you. You don’t even have to look at the screen. The automated voice will give you all pertinent hole/course information at the push of a button.
We were also taken aback at the size of this thing. It is about 1.7 x 1.7 inches high and wide and it is perfectly square. It’s kind of like holding a small post-it pad and it even weighs about the same.
The Voice Feature
The main feature of the Golfbuddy Voice GPS is the voice function. You can set it to 8 different languages and there is a small button on the front that you can push at will and the device will audibly tell you distances to the front, back and center of the green.
The first time you push the speak button it will tell you the distance to the center of the green. If you want the distance to the front of the green you push the speak button twice and when you want the yardage to the back of the green you have to push it 3 times.
The Golfbuddy Voice GPS will also update you as it searches for course information. Once it has connected to the satellites and acquired the course information, it will automatically tell you which hole of the course you are on.
You have the option of turning the voice function off completely and there are volume settings to choose from so you don’t necessarily have to use this function. Still, it’s fun and a major reason why anyone would buy it.
The Golfbuddy Voice GPS does come with a rechargeable lithium ion battery. It charges fully in just under a couple of hours and we found the charge to last about 2 full 18 hole rounds.
It should be noted that the Golfbuddy Voice GPS comes with only one battery installed in the unit so you may want to go out and get a replacement battery for longer durations of use.
Overall it is very easy to use the Golfbuddy Voice GPS. You simply hit the power button on the side once you get to the course and it takes care of the rest. It automatically tracks your position on the course and will tell you which hole you are on as you advance.
This device is feather-light weighing in at just over half an ounce. Carrying it in your pocket or clipping it to your hat or belt is a breeze. You can hardly even feel it.
Information is also displayed on the little green screen so you can take a look any time. It comes pre-loaded with 40,000 courses and Golfbuddy does not charge an annual fee for satellite usage. The Golfbuddy Voice GPS is essentially ready to use straight out of the box.

What does it all Mean?
In all, the Golfbuddy Voice GPS adds up to a reliable and convenient golf GPS device. We really like that it is ready to go right away and that you don’t even have to take it off the clip and look at it if you really don’t want to.
The toggling through middle, back and front of the green is something of a design flaw but it is easily overlooked when you consider the convenience and accuracy of this GPS. It would be especially helpful for golfers who don’t like be staring at a device all the time.
We ended up liking the Golfbuddy Voice GPS quite a bit so be sure to check it out next time you are shopping for a GPS.
I am a scratch golfer with a passion for playing as much as I can. I also enjoy following the PGA Tour and heading to tournaments when I’m able to.
