Garmin Approach S20 GPS Golf Watch Review
I’ve always struggled with keeping track of my scores on the golf course. And trying to figure out who won the last round with my golf buddies always left us with more disputes than answers! So it’s not surprising how delighted I was when I realized there‘s a new nifty gadget on the market designed to do just that—keep track of scores.
And the beauty of this product was it actually has a lot more services to offer thanks to its impressive functionality as I’ll highlight in this article. I’m talking about the Garmin Approach S20 GPS Golf Watch. Its versatility and convenience make it a must have for every golf enthusiast—yourself included.
Not only will this multi-purpose sports watch make your time on the golf course more systematic, but it’ll definitely be useful off course too.
Garmin Approach S20 GPS Golf Watch
Any tech savvy golfer looking for a reliable device that’ll make their golfing experience simpler and much more productive must consider this product.
On The Course
While on the course, this watch helps you to see the precise distances of the green including any hazards present. By pairing this watch with the Garmin TruSwing golf sensor, you’re provided with the necessary metrics needed to improve your swing. The Accuracy of the Garmin S20 is amazing and it is a huge help in club selection. While it took a little bit of time to get used to the features, after a couple of holes I was hitting the green almost every time. We had a bit of fun with the watch too, guessing the distance and then getting an accurate reading from the watch. You would be surprised to learn how the actual distance deviated from our educated guesses.
Another impressive item you’ll find useful is the AutoShot round analyzer which is designed to track shots and measure distance. The same app also records shot locations which is necessary for post round analysis. Here you can view the details of each round as well as analyze the relevant cumulative stats.
Also, with regards to performance, you’ll be impressed by how it includes data of over 40 000 golf courses that’ll help perfect your golfing skills.
This entry level watch is packed with a number of additional features that’ll help take your golfing game to the next level. As I mentioned before, you need not only purchase this watch solely for your golfing needs as it can also be used for everyday use. You only need to have a quick glance at the sleek and stylish wristband to agree with me. You’ll want to wear this daily.
Apart from the visually appealing design, this S20 GPS Golf watch is very comfortable and lightweight. This means you can wear it for hours on end without experiencing any discomfort.
Thanks to this watch you can keep a digital scorecard throughout your game. After your game, the device allows you to save and review when necessary—or show off your score to your buddies online. Simply download the Garmin Connect mobile fitness app to keep you connected and share your scores.
To track progress, you can download your score from the previous round and compare. The same app can even assemble your best round by combining your best score for each hole to get your ideal 18 for a particular course.
And all the above will be viewed clearly on your high resolution display screen which is 0.9” x 0.9” in size. It’s no secret how intense sunlight can prohibit clear screen display. The manufacturer understands this and ensured this Approach S20 watch is sunlight readable. It also helps that the numbers are huge and very easy to read.
During my round of golf, I always keep my phoned tucked away in my golf bag. But by pairing the watch with your phone via Bluetooth technology, you can still get notifications so that you don’t miss important texts, calls or emails.
When not on the golf course, this watch will serve as your fitness companion thanks to the move bar alerts that are designed to reminding you to stay active. The watch will display the number of steps you take during the day as well as the calories burnt. It even goes as far as monitoring the hours you sleep so you can track if you’re getting that much deserved rest.
The battery life is rather impressive. It can last a little over a month on a single charge.
Pros And Cons
- Attractive design
- Tracks progress
- Clear display
- Comfortable to wear
- Long lasting battery
- No touch screen
- AutoShot misses some swings
- Inconsistent operation
- Complex to use
Overall, this watch works very well but you’ll need some time before you can figure out how it works. And it’s packed with a number of features that not everyone will use. But for the purposes of recording and keeping track of scores, it serves its purpose.
The quality is top-notch and the distances are accurate. As you’re aware, accuracy is important when it comes to golf. This watch allows you to manually adjust where the pin is located on the green.
You don’t need to charge it regularly which is another plus. And in case I hadn’t mentioned, the watch does tell time so it’s not only data and stats with this device. The watch is waterproof so you can even take a shower with it and it won’t get damaged.
But the best feature in my opinion has to be the Garmin Connect. I always like to review my performance during an entire round so I know which areas I need to improve in. And this watch gives me data that allows me to do just that.
