If you are in the market for a complete set of golf clubs, the Cobra XL Fly set is one that will surely get your pulse racing. The clubs are built for distance and forgiveness and you get to chose the perfect options of shaft materials and flex to improve your game and maximize your potential.

Building on the success of previous sets, the Cobra XL Fly again looks to provide a quality set of intermediate clubs for a cost effective price.

First Impressions

After the stunning success of the Cobra XL set in 2020, Cobra have made the necessary tweaks to make the 2021 Cobra Fly XL set even better in terms of all around performance.

The Fly XL is also an updated version of some the older clubs from the Cobra Brand, adding plenty of performance to the mix.

The clubs are somewhere between beginner quality and premium quality, I would say, edging more toward the later and the clubs are certainly built for game improvement or getting to the next level from where your game is at today.

The driver is big and solid and the cavity back irons feel sturdy and ready for action.

Everything about the set let’s you know that it is a big cut above almost all beginner sets. You even get a choice between a stand and a cart bag.

The Cobra Golf Fly XL Set

Driver

The set starts off with a great driver. It features a thin yet resilient titanium face that provides more than it’s fair share of flex. It’s set 10.5 degrees of loft in regular flex and 11.5 in senior.

The weight is positioned low in the heel to compensate for draw and to promote high and towering ball flights for any swing speed.

Woods

Two woods come in the Cobra Golf Fly XL set: a 3 and 5 wood.

They sport a shallow profile so they feel wieldy in the hands and during your swing.

The 3 wood is set to 14.5 degrees of loft and the 5 wood is set to 18.5.

The 3 wood is a real jewel in the crown of the set.

Perfect for the fairway or off the tee if you struggle with the driver. It is our go to club for plenty of shots with this set.

Hybrids

There are also two hybrids in the set: a 4 at 20.5 degrees of loft and a 5 at 23.5.

The hybrids play exceptionally long, give great apex ball height and are as forgiving as hybrids should be.

If you end up in the rough, the Hybrid club will be your best friend.

Irons

The Cobra Golf Fly XL irons sport an oversized profile which, makes them much less intimidating for beginners and mid handicappers.

You get irons 6-9. These are cavity back irons with perimeter weighting to help increase MOI and forgiveness.

Wedges

You get a pitching and sand wedge in the Cobra Golf Fly XL set.

These wedges give you a lot of pop from tough lies but the precision grooves provide enough feel to get the spin you need on the green.

Putter

Lastly, the Cobra Golf Fly XL set includes a blade style putter with a machined face.

The heel and toe perimeter weighting provides a good balance and even flow on longer putts.

Set Composition

The Cobra Golf Fly XL set comes stock with Cobra graphite shafts, which is nice since you normally have to pay extra for graphite shafts.

They also come with Lamkin Crossline Midsize grips and are available in regular and senior flex.

The Cobra Golf Fly XL set also includes a cart bag with a 14-way top divider.

The bag has plenty of storage space but the top divider allows some of the club heads to bang into each other.

Final Assessment

The Cobra Golf Fly XL provides a great mix of performance and forgiveness which, is really what beginners and mid handicappers need.

Our biggest concern with the set is that you don’t get a ton of control and workability out of the irons. They play long but aren’t great for precision ball placement.

Still, this is a forgivable shortcoming in light of some of the unexpected features like the precision grooves on the wedges, the stock graphite shafts and the putter that feels like it belongs in a more expensive set.

If you are a beginner or looking to get to mid handicapper level, we would definitely recommend checking the Cobra Golf Fly XL out.
