Callaway XR Complete Set Review 2023

Callaway XR Complete Set

You love golf and you want to play regularly and you want new clubs.

However, you want to grab a set of clubs in one go that will sort you out for the coming years of your golf adventure.

Today we will help you with just that, we are looking at the Callaway XR complete set.

Callaway make some of the best clubs on the market so you could do much worse than a whole bag of their equipment.

This is the perfect set to take your game to the next level. Sometimes buying a set of clubs can be a headache so why not do it all in one go?

Callaway XR

The XR Franchise was released by Callaway a few years ago and has been an incredible success since.

It is a premium offering from one of the best companies in the golf industry. This range was developed to bring new levels of speed and forgiveness in one single impressive package.

As time has moved on and marketing budgets are now squarely focused on the new Paradym driver, the folk at Callaway have moved the XR franchise to the complete set.

This shows you just how much they love this franchise, they could have killed it but instead they reincarnated it.

Callaway XR Set

So here we are, the XR complete set is before us and it is fantastic.

Those aims of speed and forgiveness are abundant in this set. There can be no doubt that this is a game-improvement offering and forgiveness is absolutely the primary target of the engineering.

It is impressive that this set comes complete with an Odyssey putter just to give it that added seal of quality.

With a stand bag included, the Callaway XR set gives you everything you will need except tees and balls to get out onto the course and hone your game.

Callaway XR First Impressions And Club Breakdown

Callaway XR Complete Set1

First Impressions

I’m a big fan of this set very quickly. Aesthetically it is very pleasing, I love the understated colour details, I loved this driver when it first came out and that has not changed.

I was very pleased to see that the design elements that I love have continued to live on in this set.

Let’s stop looking and this set as a whole and start to get into the specifics of this set. Yes, I love the driver and the design of these clubs but let’s dig a little deeper than this.

The Driver

Callaway XR driver

At 10.5°, the driver has a nice middle of the road loft.

This will help you get the ball in the air whilst the 460cc head volume maximises forgiveness within the rules.

Callaway developed new face technology called R*MOTO for the XR, this brings the speed and the distance to the party.

The Fairway Wood

With a loft more akin to a 4-wood, this club gives a nice balance between another option from the tee and something you can comfortably hit from the fairway.

The Hyper Face Channel helps you maximise ball speed as well as promoting increased forgiveness.

The Hybrids

One of the most versatile club types in the bag, hybrids make the terror-inducing thought of hitting long irons a thing of the past.

These clubs are also equipped with the Hyper Face Channel and cover the gap between your fairway wood and your six-iron.

The Irons

Callaway XR irons

These are all about forgiveness and there is absolutely no mistaking them for any other manufacturer that Callaway.

You will be armed with a six-iron through to a nine-iron which have a low centre of gravity to help you get the ball into the air whilst providing extra forgiveness.

The Wedges

The scoring clubs are exactly as you’d expect and you have a pitching wedge (PW), approach wedge (AW) and sand wedge (SW).

This array gives you a nice spread of distances to help you attack the flag or get out of trouble around the green.

The Putter

The Odyssey DFX putter has a modern mallet shape which is fantastic for giving you added consistency which is key to developing strong skills on the green.

It is a lovely shape and the black paintwork looks fantastic behind the ball.

Callaway XR Pros

  • Value – This set costs £1499, for a complete package like this, that seems like a great deal
  • Efficient – You don’t need to search various outlets to find the right clubs for your bag, they’re all here and ready to go
  • Performance – These are fantastic clubs that should really help propel your game forward
  • Looks – There is no getting away from how good these clubs look, you may as way hone your game in style

Callaway XR Cons

  • Single brand – You may not want a full bag from one brand, clearly this represents a problem here
  • Lack of customisation – You may be fairly new to the game but custom-fitting is something I’d recommend. This set doesn’t allow for that
