Callaway X2 Hot 10-Piece Golf Club Set Review

People are always taking up the game of golf. It is a generational game that people develop a deep passion for. As a result, fathers tend to teach the game to their sons, friends get their friends into it and of course, the PGA tour is always making fans.

This creates a large pool of beginner golfers. Every year, thousands if not millions of people take up the game for the first time. So the market for beginners’ golf clubs is well, flooded. This makes it difficult to find a quality set among the dross.

So we are continuing our efforts to help beginner golfers in our long series of golf club reviews. Today we will be taking a look at another golf club set aimed at intermediate and beginner players. But is it worth your time and money? Let’s find out.

Our First Impressions

The Callaway Hot X2 golf club set struck us as a collection of clubs that beginners wouldn’t get a lot of use out of at first. In other words, we thought these clubs had advanced features that would be more suitable for Mid Handicappers than beginners.

But that was mainly because of how the clubs looked. As far aesthetics, these clubs are striking. They look sleek and their design suggests tour grade clubs.

What the Set Includes

Driver

The driver in the Callaway Hot X2 set is a 460cc monster that sports 10.5 degrees of loft. But you can adjust the loft via the hosel so you can find the perfect launch angle for your long game.

Woods

You get a #3 fairway wood in this set. The fairway wood features an oversized head and thin faces to produce hot ball speeds.

Hybrid

You also get a #5 hybrid that is set to a generous degree of loft so you can get yourself out of a variety of tough lie situations.

Irons

You get irons 6 through 9 in the Callaway Hot X2 set. Each iron features precise perimeter weighting which expands the sweet spot to increase accuracy. Ideal for beginners who are just learning how to master the difficult irons.

Wedges

The Callaway Hot X2 comes with a pitching wedge, approach wedge and sand wedge. The loft for the pitching wedge is 44, the appraoch wedge is 49 and the sand wedge is 54.

Putter

The putter in this set is a White Hot Pro 2.0 with dynamic head shaping for more accuracy and feel.

Club Compositions

All of the clubs in this set (save for the putter) can be outfitted with graphite or stainless steel shafts. The driver features a titanium face  to enhance durability and feel. The titanium material also enhances the face to produce better ball speed on off-center hits.

The driver is also available in Aldila Tour Blue Graphite shafts. The heads of all the other clubs in the Callaway Hot X2 set are composed of stainless steel.

The heads of all the irons in the set feature deep central undercuts. This is helpful because it increases the amount the face flexes on impact. Not only does this dampen excess vibration but it also produces more ball speed.

Club Options

As of the time of this writing, the options for the Callaway Hot X2 were pretty limited. You can get the set with graphite or steel shafts. If you choose graphite, there are a number of flex options available. The irons are also available in right or left-handed versions.

Final Thoughts

Overall, we liked the Callaway Hot X2. While they won’t make you want to tell the world about them, they have what every beginner needs. You get consistent distance from them, distance from the wood and driver and precision with the shorter irons and putter.

The irons also performed well in terms of spin control and straight flight. We recommend beginners pick these clubs up in graphite shafts but whatever your preference, be sure to get your hands on these clubs soon.
