Callaway Warbird Golf Club Set Review

If you are in the market for a good set of mid-grade golf clubs then you may have overlooked the Callaway Warbirds. The Callaway Warbird complete golf set is a great set for beginners and mid handicappers and may just be what you need to make that next step forward in your game.

Though they don’t get a lot of attention these days with newer Callaway models essentially overshadowing them, the Warbird clubs still have plenty to offer with the solid game improvement irons, premium putter and the massive hitting and forgiving driver. The Warbird can easily compete with any other set on the market, perfect for a beginner looking to take their game to the next level.

In the following review we will be detailing every club in the set to help you decide if the Warbirds are for you.

First Impressions

Our first impression of the Warbird set was similar to our first impression of many Callaway golf club sets and you can tell they haven’t cut any corners with this premium set.

It sported a clean, attractive design that was pleasing to the eye and titillating to our golf senses.

The irons especially – the clean cavity back design make them look like they’re begging to be swung.

Who is the Callaway Warbird Golf Club Set Best for?

While you aren’t likely to see anyone play the Warbird clubs on the PGA tour, they still provide the essential features and Callaway innovation that inspire performance.

The Warbird set would be a good fit for most players who are hovering in the 10-20 handicap zone and those aiming to get their.

What Comes In The Set?

Driver

The Warbird set is kicked off with a generous 460cc driver (the largest size allowable in tournament play).

It’s set to 10.5 degrees of loft so it launches high and holds its line surprisingly well.

3 Wood

You also get a #3 fairway wood with an oversized head. Again, you get great launch and considerable distance from this fairway wood.

The comfortable perimeter weighting also helps increase forgiveness.

3 Hybrid

An essential for any mid to high handicapper, the Warbird set comes with a #3 hybrid with a graphite shaft.

This hybrid has an aerodynamic head design but is light enough to help you effectively bridge the gap between woods and irons.

Irons

The Warbird set comes complete with irons 4-9. These are classic Callaway cavity back irons with extreme notch weighting to increase MOI and forgiveness.

The progressive offset couple with the thinner sole make these irons comfortable and playable even in tough lies, easy launching and impressive distances.

Wedges

Rounding out the iron collection of the Warbird set are a perimeter weighted sand and pitching wedge.

The wedges feature generous undercut channels and offset to make it easier to get under the ball, launch it high and stop it dead on the green.

Putter

Included in the Warbird set is a putter you wouldn’t expect in what many consider a complete golf club set.

The Warbirds are topped off with an Odyssey 330 putter which features a half mallet head design and a urethane insert.

You get great feedback from this putter on both long and short putts.

Set Composition

The woods in the Warbird golf club set feature stainless steel, thin and lightweight faces. This allows for hotter launch and higher ball speeds off the tee or from the deck. The woods all feature graphite shafts to keep weight down and flex at a high degree.

The irons in the Warbird set feature stainless steel heads and shafts. They sport cavity back heads which allows for more perimeter weighting and a larger sweet spot. This means they are exceptionally forgiving and are able to launch the ball higher.

The putter also features a stainless steel shaft which, provides stability on longer putts. The urethane face insert also allows for a tremendous amount of feel on all strokes.

Set Options

Since the Callaway Warbird golf club set is somewhat old, there aren’t a lot of options available for it.

You can choose from steel and graphite shafts in regular or stiff flexes. The set also comes stock with standard Callaway grips.

Final Assessment

So would we recommend the Callaway Warbird golf clubs for beginners and mid handicappers? Absolutely. We love that the set comes standard with graphite shafted woods and that there is precise, progressive offset in the irons (not too much, not too little).

Maybe the most impressive thing about this set though is the short game accuracy you get with the amazing-feeling putter. This is an outstanding beginner/intermediate set so check it out while you can.

Overall for me, the Callaway Strata will offer almost as much performance as the Warbirds for a fraction of the price so if you are a Beginner, go with the Strata and if you are looking to improve, the Warbird is certainly worth considering.
