What’s Good About Laser Rangefinders for Golf?
Firstly, you need to know that there are different devices you can use in place of rangefinders, from GPS watches to other smaller units. So why do we favor laser rangefinders over other devices?
Guaranteed Accuracy
Laser rangefinders provide greater accuracy compared to other simplistic GPS units. They can provide you with the exact distance measurement to almost any target.
Ease of Use
Laser rangefinders are preferred by many golfers because they’re very easy to use. These devices are battery operated so you don’t have to worry about charging issues associated with other units.
What Are the Key Features of the Callaway Tour S Golf Rangefinder?
Superior Accuracy
You can expect unmatched accuracy from this unit which features Pin Acquisition Technology. Thanks to this feature you can lock onto the pin with confidence.
Accuracy is further made possible if you set the device to Prism Mode. In this case, you can lock onto flag-mounted reflectors to ensure fool-proof distances.
The manufacturer went a step further by including the Laser Scan Mode. Using this feature, you can scan the distances to various targets simultaneously at just the click of a button. And these distances can be shown either be in meters or yards depending on your preference.
Easy to Use
As mentioned earlier, laser rangefinders are extremely easy to use and this model doesn’t disappoint in that regard. Despite its top-of-the range features, you’ll find it pretty easy to operate thanks to the intuitive controls.
7x Magnification
In order to view targets from a distance, you need to consider the magnification the rangefinder comes with. How far away can the unit view targets?
With this rangefinder, you’ll get 7x magnification. You can view targets which range anywhere from 5 to 1200 yards. Plus, you can view up to 400 yards to the flag which is pretty impressive.
Slope Compensation
This unit allows for accurate slope measurements every time. You can measure the slope’s angle of incline & decline and also calculate its adjusted distance.
Some rangefinders are illegal to use in most professional games, but not this model. Because of the Slope disabled feature, it’s legal to use for tournaments.
No need to second guess information displayed on the unit thanks to the easy to read display.
Sturdily Built
Design-wise, this unit is built to last thanks to the sturdy construction. Feel free to use this rangefinder even in rainy conditions because it’s both water and fog resistant.
You’ll appreciate the ergonomic design that makes handling this product a breeze. It helps that the device is lightweight, making it easy to handle and transport. Keep your device protected by placing it in the provided premium hard carrying case when it’s not in use.
How Does It Compare with Other Callaway Rangefinders?
Certain features do come standard with most Callaway range finders such as the ergonomic design, hard carrying case and superior accuracy. But the Tour S Golf rangefinder has a few extra features absent in the other models. As such, it’s the most expensive in the range.
To start with, when compared to the Hybrid/Laser GPS rangefinder also manufactured by Callaway we found that our featured model has:
- A higher 7x magnification compared to the other model which has a 6x magnification
- A higher maximum range of 1200 yards while the other model allows 950 yards
- The Slope Compensation feature which is absent in the other model
Is This the Best One?
So, is this the best model? This is highly subjective and is a matter of preference. But it certainly boasts more useful features that provide you with that much needed accuracy to win your next golf game.
Pros
- Provides accurate measurements
- Weather resistant
- Simple to operate
- Exceptional features

Do We Recommend It?
This product will come in handy if you want a rangefinder that’s allowed to be used in tournaments. Granted, it’s on the pricey side, but if you’re looking for a high-end sturdy, easy to use device that provides superior accuracy, this is for you.
With that said, would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely. Mind you, the Callaway 300 Pro is also a very good rangefinder for over $100 less.
