CALLAWAY PARADYM VS TAYLORMADE SIM 2 DRIVER COMPARISON AND REVIEW 2023

The Callaway Paradym drivers are the latest release from the equipment giants, built to suit all skill levels.

In this post, I conduct a Callaway Paradym vs TaylorMade SIM 2 driver comparison to see if you should stick with the tried and tested or the new kid on the block.

By the end of this post, you will know the club’s technology, performance, pros and cons of each driver, and which is best for your swing. Plus, I will reveal whether it is worth spending the extra capital on the latest release or saving on an older model.

CALLAWAY PARADYM OVERVIEW

The Paradym is the 2023 driver range from Callaway and features three models suited to varying skill levels.

The standard Paradym produces mid-to-high launch and neutral flight for the average golfer, carries an adjustable weight, and launches along a mid-to-high trajectory.

Callaway constructed the forged carbon driver to deliver straighter flight for mid-handicappers without sacrificing distance or forgiveness.

TAYLORMADE SIM 2 OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW CONCLUSION

Callaway Paradym and TaylorMade SIM 2 are drivers created to serve the average golfer.

These clubs produce neutral flight, accelerated ball speed, low spin, and optimal distance.

While the Paradym looks attractive and produces amplified acoustics, I noticed the SIM 2 was faster and longer, yet more affordable.

CALLAWAY PARADYM FIRST IMPRESSIONS

At first glance, the Paradym stands out for its incredible looks, titanium clubface, and forged carbon crown.

Despite its premium price tag, I felt the value of the Forged Titanium Face began exploding the ball into the air at impact and producing ample distance.

Overall, it impressed me with its looks, clubhead speed, ball speed, and forgiveness, but its premium price tag is not for everyone.

CALLAWAY PARADYM KEY TECHNOLOGY

360° Carbon Chassis

Callaway engineers opted for the 360° carbon chassis design to reduce the overall head weight. The combination of a Triaxial Carbon Crown and Forged Carbon sole leads to a 44% lighter construction over a traditional titanium chassis.

The engineers welcomed this weight savings in the chassis and repositioned the mass around the clubface’s perimeter. This enhances forgiveness, helping you preserve ball speed and lower spin on all shots.

Jailbreak A.I

Jailbreak is nothing new at the Callaway factory, but the engineers have worked tirelessly to refine it. The design is now 33% lighter than previous models, which delivers horizontal and torsional stability for rapid ball pace across the clubface.

A.I Designed Face

Callaway continued to display their love for technology by designing the clubface with artificial intelligence. The A.I. normalized ball speed across an expanded clubface area while limiting spin for maximum yardage on all shots.

In addition, the A.I. designed Face combats sidespin produced on off-center strikes to minimize wayward shots and send your golf ball straighter.

Forged Titanium Face

A Forged Titanium Face design pairs with Callaway’s speed-enhancing Face Cup for optimal ball speed. The thinner, active clubface enhances energy transfer at impact to spring your golf ball into the air for a high, long carry.

Adjustable Sliding Weight

Besides boosting your distance and speed capabilities, Callaway engineers fitted the Paradym with a 15-gram adjustable sliding weight.

The weight allows you to set up your driver for a draw, neutral or fade bias golf shot. Callaway claims it can correct your shot shape by 12 yards, but I would take these figures with a pinch of salt. It will change the shape of your shot, but 12 yards is a lot of correction.

OptiFit Hosel

Added to its adjustable sliding CG weight, the Paradym sports an OptiFit hosel to alter the lie and loft of the clubface. You can weaken the standard loft of the driver by 2 degrees and strengthen it by 1 degree for a lower launching drive.

Lofts

The Callaway Paradym driver is crafted in a 9, 10.5, and 12-degree loft profile to cater to players seeking high, mid, and low launch.

TAYLORMADE SIM 2 Driver FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Despite its older age than the Paradym, the TaylorMade SIM 2 stands tall and delivers a low launch, rapid speed, and minimal spin.

The result is a straighter, low-launching drive for optimal yardage off the tee.

For a lower launching driver built for superior golfers, I was impressed with the leniency of the SIM 2. Given its age, I would have expected to see it running for a lower price. However, forgiveness, distance, and accuracy do not come cheap.

TAYLORMADE SIM 2 DRIVER KEY TECHNOLOGY

Forged Ring Construction

TaylorMade engineers produced the Forged Ring Construction to optimize weight distribution and stability. An enhanced rear weight team-up with a carbon sole milled back cup face and crown to boost balance and leniency.

SIM Inertia Generator

Next, an Asymmetric Inertia Generator uses innovative geometry and aerodynamics to increase downswing speed.

In addition, the lightweight design of the Inertia Generated crown saved total mass, allowing engineers to reposition the weight low and deep. This resulted in a deeper CG to provide consistent ball speed and low spin across the clubface.

Speed Injected Twist Face

The Speed Injected Twist Face proved effective in combating off-center strikes.

By using corrective Face Curvature, the engineers manage to overcome your mistakes. It maintains ball pace and restricts spin on heel and toe mishits. As a result, it leads to straighter, consistent shots, even on off-center strikes.

Thru-Slot Speed Pocket

The game improvement features of the TaylorMade SIM 2 continued to impress. This time the Thru-Slot Speed Pocket increases the clubfaces flexibility to produce consistent velocity and low spin on all shots.

I find the average golfer stands a higher chance of launching their drives into the distance with the forgiving, flexible design.

Split Mass Weighting

TaylorMade decided to split the driver’s mass by adding a TPSS weight on the sole and a 16-gram weight at the rear. This improved the balance of the clubface at contact to maintain ball speed and resist spin for maximum distance.

Adjustable Loft Sleeve

The SIM 2 driver includes an adjustable loft sleeve, allowing you to weaken or strengthen your loft by 2 degrees. If you desire a higher launch, increase the loft. If you need less launch, lower the loft.

Lofts

The TaylorMade SIM 2 driver is available in three loft profiles, all leaning to the stronger side. 8 degrees is your lowest offering for a super low-rise launch, while the remaining options are a 9 and 10.5-degree construction.

WHO SHOULD BUY THE CALLAWAY PARADYM DRIVER?

The Callaway Paradym driver is an excellent option for mid-handicappers seeking extra forgiveness, ball speed, club head speed, and versatility.

This driver travels high and long and is equipped with a moveable CG weight to alter your desired shot shape.

Despite its impeccable features, the Paradym is priced at a premium and not an option for many golfer’s budgets. However, those with the capital will benefit from its consistency for many more years.
