Bigger isn’t always better; but sometimes it is.

As a mid to high handicap player, you may be tempted to go out and score the driver with the biggest head you can find.

While that urge may steer you in the right direction sometimes, it’s not a fool-proof approach.

You have to practice a bit of discernment when it comes to choosing a driver that is both forgiving and supplies you with the distance you need from the tee.

In the following comparison review we will be taking a look at a couple of drivers that may be ideal for mid and high handicappers.

 

Callaway Epic Speed Key Features 

The Epic Speed driver is one of Callaway’s clubs that were designed using A.I. testing to put together a myriad of face combinations to find the most optimal for ball speed.

The Epic Speed driver features Flash Face SS21 technology which is an ultra-thin variety of stainless steel. This allows for a high degree of flex.

However, the head is stabilized with a pair of jailbreak bars that expand near the crown and sole horizontally. This is a new design for Callaway that dramatically increases stability.

 

Titleist Tsi3 Key Features

The Titleist Tsi3 driver will appeal to a wide variety of players thanks to the adjustable track weighting that allows for custom  CG placement.

The Titleist Tsi3 face is made of aerospace grade titanium.

This specific type of titanium is super-resilient and like SS21 stainless steel, it flexes to a high degree.

The Titleist Tsi3 can also help you overcome your slicing tendency with an adjustable track weight.

Titleist Tsi3 Main Benefits

The Titleist Tsi3 is a great driver if you are having trouble with slices off the tee.

The main benefit of the Titleist Tsi3 is that it has the potential to suit a lot of different types of players.

It’s a versatile driver. The sliding weight has 5 positions for extreme toe bias, normal to bias, neutral, normal heel bias and extreme heel bias.

The Titleist Tsi3 also has a redesigned pear shaped head. The head shape makes this driver feel very fast in your hands.

 

Callaway Epic Speed Main Benefits

With an ultra-thin face and an aerodynamic head shape, the Callaway Epic Speed was designed to play fast.

If you are having trouble with a slow swing speed the Epic Speed driver may be able to help.

It’s the only one of the Epic family to feature the cyclone aero design and like the Titleist Tsi3, it feels fast in your hands.

The 460CC head will be a welcome sight for beginners and the distance it yields will help you start every hole on the right foot.

 

The Tsi Family

The Tsi family of drivers mostly emphasizes forgiveness and distance.

The Tsi2 is certainly he more forgiving driver in Titleist’s Tsi family.

It has all the same loft options and head size as the Titleist Tsi3 driver, but it yields higher launch.

Meanwhile the Tsi4 was built for players with faster swing speed. It has a 425CC head and produces very little spin off the tee.

 

The Epic Family

 The Epic Speed driver is the only driver in the Epic family that does not come with an adjustable weight.

Even though it lacks an adjustable weight, the Epic Speed is also the only driver in the Epic family that features Callaway’s cyclone aero head shape.

It produces more spin than Epic Max LS but it’s comparable in terms of forgiveness.

Who Is Each Driver For?

 Both of these drivers would fit well in the bag of beginner and mid-handicap players.

The Callaway Epic Speed is the more forgiving of these two driver but we didn’t like the fact that it was missing a sliding weight.

The sliding weight of the Titleist Tsi3 really makes it versatile for a wider swath of players.

 

Performance Comparison

 If you are looking for more accuracy off the tee, the Titleist Tsi3 will be a good fit for you.

 The shot shaping ability of the Titleist Tsi3 driver was clearly it’s biggest performance asset.

It allows for more control and more precise shot placement. The Epic Speed played a bit longer than the Titleist Tsi3 but it was much less workable.

Final Assessment

The Titleist Tsi3 and the Epic Speed drivers share a lot of commonalities but based on accuracy, the Titleist Tsi3 is the overall best choice.

If you are looking purely for distance and forgiveness in a driver made for higher handicap players, the Epic Speed will be more, well, your speed.

However, if you are looking for better shot shaping and accuracy off the tee, check out the Titleist Tsi3!
