Callaway Boys XJ Hot Junior Kids Golf Club Set

Who says a beginner club set has to be low quality? Obviously Callaway didn’t get that memo because they make a junior club set that would satisfy even seasoned players. Junior club sets can be tricky because striking the right balance of club sophistication and ease of use isn’t easy.

It is very difficult to find that happy middle ground between a set that your son, nephew or grandson can pick up easily and one that will grow with him as his game evolves. But today we are going to be looking at a boy’s junior golf club set that does exactly that.

Key Features of the Callaway Boys XJ Hot Junior Set

The Callaway Boys XJ Hot Junior Set is for anyone looking to score a set for their kids that will not only help with their budding game; but be a boon to them as they get better and develop a play style. Despite the name of the clubs, there is no reason why they wouldn’t be perfect for girls too.

In fact, a couple of our staff members took their daughters out to the course with these clubs and they said their girls loved them.

The recommended age group for the Callaway Boys XJ Hot Junior Set is 9-12 but a few of our younger kids were still able to use them successfully (7 and 8 year-olds). They are a little long so if your child is particularly tall they will probably be perfect for him or her.
If they are on the shorter side or just under the 9 year-old cutoff, you might want to have an inch or so taken off of them at the pro shop.

The entire set (7 clubs) features study Callaway construction without being too heavy for a child to carry. All of the clubs are wieldy enough for junior players and encourage good swing mechanics. They feature an attractive design (chrome heads with orange accents and matching bag) as well.

What you Get

As mentioned earlier, the Callaway Boys XJ Hot Junior Set comes with a total of 7 clubs. You get a driver, a sand wedge, a putter, 9 iron, 7 iron, a fairway wood and a hybrid. The driver is 360cc which allows for a large sweet spot that is easy to pick up even for beginners.

The fairway wood is essentially equivalent to a 3-wood. It is not too heavy but our junior golfers were still able to get good distance from them on long approach shots. You also get decent loft angle out of it at about 24 degrees.

The putter is Callaway’s famed Odyssey 2 design. We saw our kids hit consistent shots with it which is what impressed us the most about it.

The hybrid wood is about 35 inches in length and we saw our kids get some good loft out of this one too at just about 30 degrees. But perhaps the most impressive clubs in this set were the irons and sand wedge. They feature Callaway’s advanced cavity back design which not only make them lightweight, but allow for more forgiveness and control on approach shots.

If you want to teach your kid how to control spin and ball speed, the 7 and 9 iron will reinforce good swing habits. The sand wedge offers a generous 54 degree loft and of course, all three sound super-satisfying to the ears of adult and child golfers alike.

The bag is also good quality. It features a 5-way top for easy and convenient storage, 5 zippered pockets, a rain hood, double strap for effortless carrying and even a water bottle holder! You also get head covers for the driver, hybrid and fairway wood.
