Big Bertha B21 vs Callaway Mavrik Driver Review

Are you looking for a new barking dog? It has never been harder to find a new driver as the market is just jam-packed with choices and technology that promises to give you yardages like you have never imagined. Let me try to help you with the choice by comparing two drivers head to head.

The Big Bertha B21 was a brand new driver for 2023. It’s built for players who want to improve their game with a large, forgiving face and higher loft than the Mavrik. The Mavrik is designed using AI for maximum distance and accuracy.

You are likely to see Mid Handicappers and PGA Tour Pros alike using the Mavrik Driver.

Callaway makes some of the best golf clubs on the market and their new use of artificial intelligence (AI) in club development has worked wonders for them.

There is no doubt that the Mavrik has been a huge success but how does the new Big Bertha B21 compare? Read on to find out.

The Callaway Big Bertha B21 Driver

Putting the Big Bertha name on a club puts the pressure on it to deliver. This is one of Callaway’s most famous lines and this club certainly looks the part. It is sleek, understated and is reasonably priced.

This club is designed for people struggling with a slice, it has a strong draw bias.

Personally, I didn’t enjoy hitting so much because of this but it could be incredible for golfers who struggle with this shape. The face has Jailbreak technology so has that hard and fast Callaway driver feel.

Callaway Mavrik Driver

Following on from the Epic, Rogue and Epic Flash is no mean feat but it would seem that the Mavrik has pulled it off.

This driver has been a real success this year and even the higher spinning model gives really nice low spin numbers. The shape and design of the club instils confidence at address.

This club feels similar to the Big Bertha at impact as it also has Jailbreak technology, this gives it that really solid feel. It was impressively forgiving thank to the A.I. designed Flash Face. I prefer this one as it has more neutral weighting and is far less draw biased.

The Ai technology, large forgiving face, high adjustable loft and low center of gravity make the B21 a special driver for high handicappers and intermediates.

The draw bias will also make it hugely appealing to people who struggle with a left to right shot shape.

Finally, buying a Big Bertha is buying a slice of golf equipment history, which certainly adds to the appeal of this club.

Mavrik Vs Big Bertha B21 Vs Mavrik Max Driver

The Mavrik is a great all-rounder and suits the most golfers from pro right up to high-handicapper.

The Mavrik Max is designed to help the intermediate/higher-handicapper a bit more with a higher launch and a stronger draw bias.

The Big Bertha B21 is for the game-improvement player.

How Do They Compare On Performance And Feel?

The Mavrik, to me, performs the best with the Mavrik Max being an unsurprising close second.

The all feel fairly similar as Jailbreak gives them that solid strike that feels so fast.

I am just not a fan of the draw bias, however, I can see why it is there and many will love it.

How Do They Compare On Price?

The Mavrik range has been around longer and so is cheaper.

I think that it is better value as you are getting a better club for less money.

That being said, the Big Bertha B21 is still good value for those who want buy a premium driver that can give them longer and straighter drives.

Which One Do We Recommend?

Depending on your golf game, I recommend both the Mavrik and the Big Bertha B21.

I don’t think this is a cop-out because they are just so different.

For higher-handicapper the B21 is a stunning piece of engineering, for better players, the Mavrik is also a masterpiece.

Conclusion

Callaway make some really iconic drivers, in fact the best looking driver ever, in my opinion was a Callaway (Octane Diablo Black).

These drivers have that edgy and typical Callaway look as well as carrying the fantastic Big Bertha name.

I love that they still use this name and the club is worthy of it.

The beauty of the Big Bertha B21 is in its simplicity.

It is not over-designed, nor is it packed with extra features just for the sake of it.

This is a club that has been built for a specific market and if you fit into that group then you should definitely buy this club, it could be a game changer for your 2021.
