1. The Taylormade Golf M2 Iron Set

This is a great set if you like lightweight irons. The fluted hosel saves a ton of weight while focusing the bulk of the heft at the bottom of the heel.

This weight design combined with the slotted face makes for super forgiving irons. The thin top profile blade also makes shots hit off the toe or the heel fly straighter than normal.

These Irons feel great even in the rough. They come in either steel or graphite shafts and you get 4 through Pitching Wedge with this set. You also get the choice between regular and stiff flex and right or left-hand orientation. You can expect to pay around $500 for the complete set.

Pros

  • Very lightweight
  • These are very forgiving irons
  • Long-lasting Taylormade design

Cons

  • Not conducive to fast swing speeds
  • A bit hard to work the ball with

2. Callaway XT Hot Iron Set

Garmin Approach S60 1

If you are looking for a set of irons that will help you get down the fairway in a hurry, then these may be the perfect set for you. The Callaway XT Hot Irons were designed for length.

They feature a titanium shaft that feels solid and is more conducive to faster swing speeds. They are also surprisingly forgiving. We tested both the titanium steel shaft and the graphite shafts and found that we were able to hit off-center shots better even with the titanium shafts.

Keep in mind that you can also get the Callaway XT Hot Irons with graphite shafts that provide a little more flex if that is what you prefer. In any case, be prepared to uses these irons to bomb it down the fairway. We were easily getting 5-10 extra yards with these lengthy irons.

Overall these irons performed very well. Our party of testers was pretty much all mid-handicappers and almost all of us saw a drop in our handicaps. You can tell that these irons were made to perform which has become a hallmark of Callaway clubs.

You have your choice of a set that includes 4 through PW plus AW or 5 through PW plus AW. These clubs hover right at the $500 mark.

Pros

  • These irons play very long
  • Great irons for mid to high handicappers
  • The grips feel very nice too

Cons

  • They are a bit on the heavy side
  • The 4 irons are a bit underutilized in this set as the 5 plays much like a 4

3. Cobra Men’s 2018 F-Max One Length Golf Iron Set

Sklz Golf Trainer

The long irons in this set are made of 17-4 stainless steel while the shorter irons are constructed of 431 grade stainless steel. These Cobra clubs also feature nickel coated plating for aesthetic appeal and durability.

All of this adds up to a surprisingly light set of irons that are stylishly designed. And if you are looking for more loft, these irons have that for sure. The off-set hosel design allows you to get under the ball easier and launch it high and straight.

We really loved these irons on approaches because they gave us tremendous drop and stop on the green. You can get these clubs with regular flex, graphite shafts in a 6 through pitching wedge combination. These are very affordable irons at just around $275

Pros

  • These clubs sound great
  • Uniform length
  • You get good loft from these irons

Cons

  • The pitching wedge takes a little getting used to

4. Cleveland Golf 2018 Men’s Launcher CBX Iron Set

The wedges of this iron set are really what had us sold. If you are looking for greenside control and spin, these are a great set of irons to have in your arsenal.

The zip grooves in the face of these clubs make it so easy to feel the ball and get the spin you want. The V sole and the cup face also make it pretty easy to get good height and distance. And even the steel shaft set is surprisingly lightweight.

But of course, you can choose either steel or graphite shafts in both left and right hand orientations. Cleveland offers regular, senior and stiff flex models and you have your choice of a 4-PW set or a 4-PW plus a DW set. You can expect to pay just about $500 for the regular flex set.

Pros

  • These irons are balanced very well
  • Laser milled face design
  • Cavity back irons

Cons

  • Not great if you need extra distance
  • The senior and stiff flex models cost more

5. Wilson Staff Men’s D200 Irons

These irons from Wilson also feature a cavity back design which not only makes them sound great off the ball, but help you to get a good consistent apex height on your shots.

These irons bear a striking design. And while you only get the option for steel shafts, it would be hard to imagining wanting a graphite shaft to pair with these heads. They were built for piercing ball speed and distance. The longer irons strike more like drivers so prepare for serious distance.

In this set you get 5-GW with the pitching wedge giving you a nice 43 degree loft angle and the gap wedge providing an ample 47 degrees. And while you get good added distance from these irons, they are still pretty forgiving too. You can expect to pay around $250 for this set.

Pros

  • Awesome irons for distance
  • Good loft from the wedges
  • Cool design

Cons

  • They aren’t very workable
  • The grips they come with feel too thin

6. 2018 Cobra Golf Men’s King F8 One Length Iron Set

If you want a uniform length set of irons, these Cobra’s would be a good option for you. All of them are the same length and the weight has been set to a standard 7 iron.

But what makes this set truly unique is the incorporation of carbon fiber into the club face. The carbon fiber allows for a thinner face and a soft feel. It also helps to keep the overall weight of the set light.

The grooves on the longer irons help reduce airborne spin and the grooves on the wedges help to increase spin so you get help where you need it. This is an overall, very well-designed set of irons that you can get in right hand, left hand, graphite and steel shafts.

You can also choose between regular, stiff and lite flex. The regular flex set costs around $440.

Pros

  • They provide great spin control
  • Great ball speed from the long irons
  • Great apex height from the wedges

Cons

  • Not very durable
  • They run a little long

7. TaylorMade Rocket Bladez 2.0 Iron Set

The 4 through 7 irons of this set feature something that Taylormade calls their “Speed Pocket” which is essentially just a cavity backed head. Whatever they call it, they make sure that the ball goes farther and higher.

The 4 through 7 irons give the distance you would expect from a driver but with better loft to help you get past hazards. The 17.5 gram weight of the club heads is well-distributed towards the heel for better control, feel and apex height.

Taylormade has also incorporated polyurethane material in the club head to dampen vibration and provide more feel. You can get a 4 through PW set of these clubs for about $350

Pros

  • Lightweight irons
  • They seem to be very durable
  • Thin top profile for better feel

Cons

  • Not great for overall ball speed
  • They don’t sound great

8. Callaway Golf 2018 Men’s Rogue Irons Set

These irons solve the problem of thin club faces that vibrate too much: like our previous entry, they incorporate a polyurethane layer to dampen vibration.

These Callaway irons also feature the 360 Cup face technology which expands the area of the face for concentrated weight and striking energy. The result is pretty impressive ball speed and distance.

You’ve got a bunch of options with these irons including 4-AW, 4-SW, 5-pw, 5-SW, 6-PW, 6-SW, stainless steel shaft, synergy 660G shafts, regular, stiff and senior flex for around $500.

  • Very forgiving

  • They run a bit long

9. LAZRUS Premium Golf Irons

This is a good, affordable set that will be most suitable for players looking to fine tune their greenside game. The faces of these irons feature fairly substantial grooves that help dial in ball spin on approaches.

You get 47 degrees of loft form the pitching wedge and 43 degrees from the 9 iron that this set includes. As you may have guessed, this set comes standard with 4-PW but you can also opt to include 2 and 3 irons for a bit more money. Your standard set will cost around $250

Pros

  • This is a very affordable iron set
  • It gives a generous amount of spin and ball control around the green
  • Attractive design

Cons

10. Extreme X5 Wide Sole iBRID Iron Set

Last on our list is a set of irons that would perfectly suit players with a slower swing speed or those just getting into the game. The club faces of these irons are weighted in the back and bottom of the club head.

The perimeter of the face is also fortified to expand the veritable sweet spot of these irons so they allow for maximum forgiveness. But don’t let the forgiving design fool you. These were some of the best-feeling irons on our list.

Impact feels solid and smooth. They give a good amount of distance and apex height as well. You can get these clubs in 4-SW with graphite shafts and senior flex. And at just around $290, the price is certainly right.

Pros

  • These irons feel really good
  • They are lightweight
  • Very forgiving

Cons

  • Not the best clubs if you are looking for maximum distance
  • Not the best for fast swing speeds
