Senior golfers need distance, forgiveness, and feel when they choose a new driver. There is no debating the fact that as we age, our swings start to slow down. The drivers on the market today can help you get some of this distance back and start playing the game the way that you want to again.

We know that not all senior golfers are the same and while some are new to the game and want to take on a new hobby for their retirement, others are already savvy golfers with mid to low handicaps and these golfers are both looking for slightly different things from their driver.

The driver is a massive club in every bag, not because we play the most shots with it, but because of the sense of satisfaction we get when we let one rip right down the middle of the fairway. It’s no secret that everybody is looking for distance off the tee but while a new player is looking for forgiveness and accuracy, a more experienced player is more focused on feel and distance with all their clubs.

Whatever type of golfer you class yourself as, we have picked our favorite drivers for the senior golfer and reviewed them for you. There is an option on this list for all player abilities and budgets.

1.     Cobra Golf 2019 F-Max Superlite Driver Black-Red – (Best Overall)

At the top of our list is the Cobra Golf 2019 F-Max Superlite Driver. The reason this club sits at the top is the fact that everything that could have possibly been done to make it faster and have a better swing weight for the senior golfer has been done. Not only is the grip lightweight, but so is the shaft and the grip as well. Senior golfers that are lacking distance in any way will be more than happy with the results of the F Max Superlite Senior Driver.

2. TaylorMade SIM MAX Driver (Best Premium)

The TaylorMade SIM Max Driver is the best premium driver for seniors. This golf club is a brand new release from TaylorMade, and although it will be more expensive than other options on the market, it has a lot of fantastic performance attributes. TaylorMade is all about Speed, and they do everything they can to give golfers increased ball speed.

Since the SIM Max is one of the more expensive drivers out there for seniors, you will need to have some room in your budget for this one. We love the SIM Max driver for the golfer that demands both performance and feel. The SIM Max looks, sounds, and feels great, and there is nothing cheap about how this club is made. Many golfers are saying it’s the longest driver that TaylorMade has ever released.

Selling Points

The club head of the TaylorMade SIM Max Driver is what they call Speed injected. 5. TaylorMade M6 Driver (460cc)

The TaylorMade M6 Driver is the best selling release from TaylorMade last year. We love that this club can fly a long way and at the same time it has dropped in price since last year.

Who Is It For

The TaylorMade M6 Driver is for the senior golfer that loves to hit a long ball still. If you have been playing golf your entire life and not ready to give up the distance just because you are growing older, this is the golf club for you. Since it has dropped in price from last year, it is also a much more economical choice than the SIM Max Driver.

Selling Points

One of the best things about the M6 driver is Twist Face Technology. This was also included in the SIM Max release because it is so effective. The Twist Face helps to reduce side spin on a shot so that you get a much straighter drive. Combining that with the Speed Injected face, you get an exceptionally high-quality golf club.

Selling Points

The D7 is a very lightweight design that helps players who are lacking a bit of clubhead speed. We love the fact that the D7 comes in a 13-degree driver loft option as well as the 9 and 10.5. 7. Callaway Golf 2018 Rogue Driver

The Callaway Rogue Driver is a few years old, but the technology is still very relevant. Very fast ball speeds have been recorded with the Rouge driver because of the Jailbreak technology incorporated inside the clubhead. This driver was developed with the help of Boeing, and it certainly shows in its performance.

Who Is It For

The Callaway Rogue Driver is for a senior golfer that needs more distance in their golf game. The Rogue was not rated as high as possible for the sound and the feel, but the distance and forgiveness are very impressive.

Selling Points

Potentially one of our favorite features of this Callaway Rogue driver is the very lightweight and high performing shaft. For a senior golfer, the lighter shaft can help to generate a lot of extra clubhead speed. Most shafts for seniors are around 55 or 50 grams. The Rogue has a 40-gram shaft. These ten grams of weight can make a significant difference in overall clubhead speed and performance. The adjustable clubhead also makes this driver feel like a custom fit each time you take it out of the golf bag.

Golfers using the M4 feel as though they have control over the golf ball and, at the same time, can launch it quite far. All of the Speed and forgiveness that you see in the new releases from TaylorMade started with the concepts and ideas that were released with the TaylorMade M4 driver.

10. Senior Men’s Majek High Launch Golf K Series 460cc 10.5° Driver

The Senior Men’s Majek High Launch Driver is not a name brand choice, but it works well for a golfer looking for a cheap upgrade. The size of the clubhead and weight of the shaft makes this an excellent choice for seniors. It won’t perform to the same level as some other golf drivers on our list, but it is not a bad choice.

Who Is It For

The Majek is an excellent choice for the higher handicap senior player that wants a new driver without spending a ton of money.

Selling Points

The Majek driver has a standard senior golf shaft in it that keeps this driver very lightweight and easy to swing. The Majek is a high launch driver, even though it has 10.5 degrees of loft, the shaft is a low kick point, which helps it get up in the air.

Other Factors To Consider

Weight

The weight of the club is going to be important, especially for seniors but it is not fair to throw every senior golfer into the same bucket as some will swing the club faster than others, just like with any age group.

Find out what your swing speed is so that you know the shaft type that is best for your game whether that is super light and flexible or a bit stiffer and with more regular flex to get that extra bit of distance for the faster swingers.

Shafts

The shaft you get included with the club will likely represent the price you pay for your driver. The more expensive drivers usually come with more options in regards to shaft weight and material and they will usually come pre loaded with high end shafts for peak performance.

If you decide to go for the Majek, Wilson or the Cleveland, you may also get a stock shaft which isn’t the end of the world but may not offer as much for the more experienced players.

Loft

Senior players will benefit from a higher degree of loft than the average player that will allow them to get a better launch trajectory and overall distance on their drives. We recommend a degree of loft that is at least 12 degrees that will suit a slower swing speed but this is always going to come down to being a matter of personal preference for any golfer.

Adjustability

While some players want a constant value in the degree of their loft, it never hurts to have more options in my opinion and tweaking the adjustable head on your driver can be a quick and effective way to cure a slice or a hook and most of the better drivers will come with an adjustable head.

Price

You normally get what you pay for in this world and from what we have seen throughout the years, this statement usually holds true for golf as well.

As we enter our senior years, we have a lot more time to spend playing golf and hopefully we have some money to invest in nice equipment as well.

While there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Taylormade RBZ, walking out onto the course with The Sim Driver can make you feel like a hero.

If you want top quality for a bit less, you could always try the M4 and the M2 from Taylormade which are both excellent clubs.

Conclusion

Hopefully, our list of the best senior golf drivers has helped you narrow down some of the hundreds of choices that are out there. Choose a club that works for your budget, but keep in mind that distance is probably going to be the most critical factor for a senior player.

As swing speeds start to slow down, your distances will decrease. This decrease can be quite frustrating and unfortunate. Luckily if your driver has not been updated in the last few years, all it may take is a change of driver.
